As we expand, we’re looking for a skilled Accounting Manager/Controller to lead our accounting operations and support strategic financial initiatives.
Position Summary
The Accounting Manager/Controller will oversee all aspects of financial operations, including full-charge bookkeeping, reporting, payroll, and compliance. This role is critical to maintain financial accuracy and support the company’s growth. You’ll lead a team of three accountants and one part-time assistant, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the accounting team
- Establish and maintain written accounting procedures for both operating accounting and property accounting
- Full-charge bookkeeping and reporting through financial statements including month-end close procedures and general ledger account analysis
- Manage accounts payable and reconcile credit card statements
- Perform bank reconciliations for operating and trust accounts, including 3-way reconciliations
- Process all necessary bank transfers
- Troubleshoot AppFolio issues and maintain procedural documentation
- Calculate commissions and manage payroll processing
- Oversee health insurance and 401K enrollment
- Conduct annual 401K testing, reporting, and required employee notifications
- Support monthly property closings including management fees, owner distributions, and ACH processing, and review to ensure accuracy
- Provide monthly statistical reports using Excel, requires use of advanced commands and formulas
- Assist with annual budgeting and monthly forecasting
- Set up vendors and confirm owner bank account details in AppFolio
- Analyze monthly revenue and expenses across divisions
- Review leasing commissions and ensure proper accounting
- Prepare annual property tax returns and unclaimed property filings
- Other duties as assigned by the VP or CFO
Qualifications
- Proven experience in accounting management or controller-level role
- Strong background in property management accounting preferred
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, AppFolio, and Excel
- Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience with payroll, benefits administration, and 401K compliance
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and leadership skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- HR experience is a plus
