Executive Summary Community Human Services (CHS) is a 55‑year‑old nonprofit and Joint Powers Authority serving Monterey County, dedicated to providing high‑quality mental health, substance abuse, and homeless services to its 4,500 clients annually. Operating with a $17 million budget and a staff of 160 across 13 sites, CHS seeks a visionary CEO to replace its retiring leader. The key opportunity for the next CEO is to strengthen the organization’s infrastructure, diversify services, and solidify new revenue sources, particularly for its vulnerable homeless programs.

Responsibilities

Maintain financial stability and oversee the organization’s financial health.

Lead a leadership team of four, ensuring effective governance and management.

Ensure compliance with licensing, certification, and industry standards (e.g., CARF, Medi‑CAL).

Lead fundraising efforts, actively soliciting support and developing a comprehensive plan.

Qualifications

Five to ten years of progressive executive leadership experience in a nonprofit environment.

A deep passion for the mission and a proven ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Comfort as the public face of the organization and skill in navigating a challenging funding landscape.

Bachelor’s degree required (master’s preferred) and experience engaging a committed Board of Directors.

Compensation includes an annual salary range of $185,000 to $245,000, with generous benefits such as 100% employer‑paid health coverage for employees and 50% for dependents.
