Location: Berlin, Germany - Hybrid / Remote
Are you ready to help shape the future of high-speed optical communications? We are seeking a Staff Photonics IC Design Engineer to join an ambitious international team developing the next generation of optical transceiver chips for data centres.
In this role, you’ll design and develop advanced high-speed active SiPh components (such as modulators for 200 Gb/s and 400 Gb/s systems), while working closely with electronic IC and system engineering groups.
Key Responsibilities
Develop active photonic building blocks and devices for O-band and C-band applications
Model electro-optic building-block behaviour under static and transient RF operation
Simulate photonic integrated circuits on SOI platforms
Perform system-level channel simulations with cross-functional teams
Define design methodologies and environments for scalable development
What We’re Looking For
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
6+ years of industry experience
Strong knowledge of FDTD methods, Eigenmode expansion, and TCAD simulations
Experience in RF circuit design and PIC/EIC design tools (e.g., Lumerical suite, HFSS)
Proven experience in PIC design flow from specification to tape-out
Object-oriented programming experience
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
Fluency in English (German is a plus)
