Overview
System Engineer role at Microsoft. Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) powers Microsoft’s Intelligent Cloud with server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, and related solutions for the company’s online services. We are seeking passionate engineers to help achieve this mission and deliver high-quality hardware solutions for cloud infrastructure. Responsibilities
Collaborate across silicon, platform, and customer teams to define hardware solutions and influence product architecture. Design, test, and debug complex hardware technologies for product development. Develop validation strategies, manufacturing guidelines, and system bring-up processes. Lead platform and solution level discussions, influencing architecture and delivering to quality goals across reliability, safety, manufacturability, serviceability, and performance. Perform statistical analysis to identify complex issues affecting feature or product design changes; recommend solutions to novel problems. Serve as engineering interface between customers, ODM vendors, and internal teams for test/user scenario development. Collaborate in design reviews between development teams and suppliers. Analyze New, Unique, Different (NUD) module features against supplier capabilities and provide risk mitigation for gaps and schedule impact. Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field OR Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Computer/Mechanical Engineering or related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent. 2+ years in FPGA and/or embedded system design and validation across full product lifecycle. 2+ years of experience with server hardware, firmware, and software interfaces across system modules. Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements, including Microsoft Cloud Background Check at hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with high-speed networking and system interconnect and memory technologies (PCIe, DDR-DRAM, I2C/SPI/SMBUS). Familiarity with system engineering processes – requirements definition, architecture, implementation, and validation. Ability to assess technical risks, drive solutions, and perform impact assessments. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced product development environment and collaborate across disciplines to resolve complex issues. Experience designing, testing, debugging, and validating hardware technologies; developing and executing hardware verification and functional test plans. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Compensation and Benefits
Hardware Engineering IC3 – base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD 100,600 to 199,000 per year. There are location-specific ranges in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area (USD 131,400 to 215,400 per year).
