OPTOMETRIST 3 HX — Department of Ophthalmology, Shiley Eye Institute. This is a career appointment with 100% effort. Union: HX Contract. Total Openings: 1. Responsibilities
The Comprehensive Optometrist works in various clinics focusing on cornea and specialty contact lenses, primary eye care, dry eye and ocular disease with involvement in urgent eye care. Responsibilities include: Provide cornea and specialty contact lens fittings, primary eye care including comprehensive eye examinations, and problem-focused examinations including for dry eye. Triages acute eye-related issues and provides urgent eye care with appropriate testing, diagnosis, treatment, and management of ocular health conditions. Collaborate with ophthalmology department specialists and healthcare professionals; participate in teaching and research as applicable. The position emphasizes specialty contact lens focus and requires broad knowledge of ocular disease and disorders of the eye and visual system to maximize visual function and eye health. Qualifications
Doctoral degree in optometry issued by an accredited school/college of optometry Optometry residency training in cornea and contact lenses Thorough knowledge of optometry and skills essential to perform duties Thorough knowledge of eye disease diagnosis Ability to effectively communicate examination findings to patients Demonstrated skill in fitting and prescribing specialty contact lenses Ability to perform dry eye evaluations and provide appropriate treatment Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to work with diverse client groups Ability to provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff Ability to work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and healthcare professionals across the campus Effective interpersonal skills; professional skills in delivering eye care and diagnostic services Experience using an electronic medical record system Special Conditions
May need to travel to satellite clinics Must be able to work varying hours including evening or Saturday clinics Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical Additional Information
