Overview
Optometrist position in the Department of Ophthalmology at UC San Diego Health. The Comprehensive Optometrist works in various clinics focusing on primary eye care and ocular disease with involvement in urgent eye care.
Responsibilities
Provide primary eye care including comprehensive eye examinations, problem-focused examinations, and contact lens fittings.
Triages acute eye-related issues and provides urgent eye care including appropriate testing to diagnose, treat and manage ocular health conditions.
Collaborate with ophthalmology department specialists and members of the healthcare community. Participate in teaching and research.
Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions; work in a collaborative manner with staff, faculty, and the healthcare community across the campus.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree in optometry issued by an accredited school/college of optometry
Optometry residency training
Thorough knowledge of optometry and skills essential to the successful performance of the duties
Thorough knowledge of eye disease diagnosis; must be able to effectively communicate findings to patients
Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to work with diverse client groups
Ability to provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff; ability to work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and healthcare community
Experience delivering eye care, treatment, and diagnostic services; proficient use of electronic medical record systems
Special Conditions
May need to travel to satellite clinics
May work various hours including evening or Saturday clinics
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical
