Overview
Nurse Practitioner Fellow - Palliative Care The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Adult Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner Fellowship is a one-year full-time fellowship to prepare a qualified nurse practitioner to assume clinical, leadership and educator roles in adult palliative care specialty practice. Nurse fellows join an interprofessional class, the Harvard Interprofessional Palliative Care Fellowship, consisting of nurse practitioners, physicians, social workers, and pharmacists who share the goal of a career in palliative care. Training includes classroom teaching and clinical supervision by experts in the field so fellows attain proficiency in the care of patients with serious illness or at the end of life. Fellows gain competency in the management of pain and other symptoms, end-of-life symptom management, psycho-social support for patients and families, and advanced communication skills. Location: Boston and the surrounding communities. The fellowship follows Harvard Interprofessional standards and includes mentoring by expert advanced palliative nurses and an interprofessional team. Fellows receive salary and full benefits for one year (7/1/2026–6/30/2027). A summer intensive classroom curriculum is followed by monthly half-day didactic sessions. Clinical rotations include inpatient Palliative Care Service, Dana-Farber Adult Palliative Care Clinic, home and inpatient hospice, and community-based palliative care. Elective rotations are designed by the fellow. There are opportunities for teaching, resiliency and leadership development, and scholarly projects including quality improvement, presentation at Grand Rounds, and a submission/attendance at professional meetings. Masters or Doctorate in Nursing from an accredited program is required by January 2026. Board certification or board eligibility by March 1, 2026 is required in one of the following: Adult/Geriatric Primary Care, Adult Acute Care or Family Nurse Practitioner. Licensure as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in Massachusetts is required before the start of the fellowship (July 1, 2026), with prescriptive authority for controlled substances in MA with DEA registration required before start. Fulfillment of all requirements including didactics curriculum and scholarly assignments of the Harvard Interprofessional Palliative Care Fellowship. Comply with all job requirements of DFCI Nurse Practitioner. Qualifications
Masters or Doctorate in Nursing from an accredited program by January 2026. Board certified or board-eligible by March 1, 2026: Adult/Geriatric Primary Care, Adult Acute Care or Family Nurse Practitioner. Licesure as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in Massachusetts required before start of fellowship (July 1, 2026). Prescriptive authority for controlled substances in MA with DEA registration required before start of fellowship. Prior experience as Nurse Practitioner preferred. Application period
