Board of Directors Prairie Rivers of Iowa Resource, Conservation and Development is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, founded more than 25 years ago and based in Ames, Iowa. Our mission is to promote economic development through the restoration and conservation of Iowa’s cultural and natural resources. We are guided by our core values that advocate sustainability for present and future generations, and we work to recognize and improve Iowa’s natural, historical and cultural resources. The Executive Director will provide organizational leadership, oversee administration and financial management, and develop a strong fundraising program to ensure long-term stability and impact. Responsibilities
Organizational leadership and Financial Management Understand the organization’s mission and programs. Lead and support a dedicated, collaborative staff team. Be a Prairie Rivers advocate and build coalitions with our partners and donors. Manage financial operations, including budgeting, programs, grants, payroll and reporting. Secure resources to implement organizational and program goals. Ensure effective internal communication, aligning with fundraising opportunities. Fundraising and Development Design and implement a successful diversified fundraising program. Cultivate and maintain donor relationships, including individuals, foundations and organizations. Expand major donor support to strengthen financial sustainability. Promote Prairie Rivers of Iowa through marketing, outreach and education. Partnerships, and Community Engagement Serve as a public advocate for Prairie Rivers’ mission and programs. Build relationships with partner organizations, supporters, businesses, and environmental agencies to effectively grow fundraising. Develop coalitions that enhance the reach and impact of programs. Board Relations Report to and collaborate with an engaged nonprofit Board of Directors. Provide transparent communications regarding fundraising, finances and operations. Support the Board in strategic planning and fundraising initiatives. Qualifications: Strong interpersonal skills, including active listening, trust building, and collaboration across diverse groups. Demonstrated management experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to develop and nurture partnerships with businesses, community organizations and groups. Fundraising experience in the nonprofit sector or equivalent is preferred. Experience in donor cultivation, fundraising campaigns, and financial oversight. An undergraduate degree is required; advanced degree progress is preferred (or equivalent experience). Experience a plus in QuickBooks and development software.
