Orion Policy Institute is seeking a Non-Resident Fellow – Transnational Crime Trends Project to join our dynamic team of researchers and policy analysts. The Transnational Crime Trends Project Fellow will contribute to our research agenda by providing expertise in analyzing and contextualizing emerging patterns in transnational organized crime. Responsibilities
Conduct in-depth research and analysis on transnational organized crime trends, including illicit trafficking, financial crimes, cyber-enabled networks, corruption, and their intersections with governance, security, and development. Produce high-quality op-eds, policy briefs, reports, and research papers that contribute to understanding the evolving landscape of transnational crime and its global security implications. Collaborate with OPI researchers and policy analysts to develop evidence-based, actionable policy recommendations aimed at strengthening international cooperation and resilience against transnational criminal networks. Familiarity with emerging technologies and financial systems that enable illicit activities, including cryptocurrency, dark web operations, and surveillance technologies. Participate in webinars, conferences, and other public forums to present research findings and engage with stakeholders. Provide expert commentary and insights on transnational crime issues for media and public inquiries. Assist in the development of funding proposals to support relevant research projects. Qualifications
Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in international relations, political science, security studies, criminology, political science, law, economics, or related fields. Skills in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods, with experience in designing and conducting rigorous studies. Strong writing and communication skills, with a track record of published research or policy papers. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote work environment. Demonstrated expertise in one or more specific areas of international legal frameworks, multilateral cooperation mechanisms, and regional dynamics related to organized crime and illicit economies. Experience in engaging with policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the public on related issues is a plus. Application Process
