The Legal Director will lead our Legal team in the Americas and is responsible for all Legal affairs in this region. This role reports to the General Counsel and provides Legal counsel to the executive leadership team, the board and other senior management. It is ultimately responsible for developing the legal function and frameworks in the region and supporting strategic projects. The role focuses on all legal aspects to support operations across the region. Main Responsibilities
Support and advise our teams on the full lifecycle of data centers in the region, including land and power acquisition, zoning and permitting, design and construction, operations and maintenance, procurement and customer contracts. Develop and implement the company’s legal strategy to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations and industry standards. Stay updated on legal developments and market changes to advise on risks and opportunities. Work with internal stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance across the business. Identify legal risks and develop risk mitigation strategies. Conduct legal due diligence on potential transactions, acquisitions and partnerships. Advise on risk allocation and mitigation in commercial agreements. Collaborate with finance, operations and compliance to ensure alignment and adequate legal support. Establish relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, government authorities and investors. Oversee the delivery of legal services to accomplish corporate goals across regions. Review, draft and negotiate commercial contracts, including framework agreements, leasing and transactional documents. Provide legal guidance in negotiations and execution of contracts with suppliers, partners and customers. Ensure contracts align with the company’s commercial objectives. Maintain corporate relationships with relevant governmental bodies and community stakeholders. Advise senior corporate officers on a variety of issues. Participate in formulation of general management policy as a member of the executive management team. Manage and grow a team of lawyers. Work cooperatively with the global legal team and supervise and train employees, including organizing and prioritizing work assignments. Foster a cooperative work environment and develop and implement legal strategies and solutions. Manage external legal engagements and review their outputs. Advise on MSAs, outsourcing, SLAs and legal aspects of procurement such as RFPs. Advise on legal considerations and costs of entering new markets. Qualifications and Experience
Qualified Lawyer with a minimum of 10+ years of PQE experience. Strong private practice experience coupled with in-house experience. Industry experience in large companies and private equity-backed contexts. Experience in Real estate/Construction/Infrastructure Projects is required; data center industry experience is desirable. Experience supporting executive leadership. Extensive experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements and a wide variety of supply-side and customer contracts. Experience entering new markets within EMEA, U.S. and APAC and understanding legal issues involved. Experience working with external counsel. Experience leading, managing and developing a legal team and working cross-functionally with Procurement, Deals & Leasing. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a high-scale business. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills; effective communication with all levels of the business. Strong negotiating skills on legal and commercial issues. Strong organizational, time management and workload management skills; ability to prioritize. Ability to establish and maintain relationships across departments and business units. Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements in real estate, construction and data center sectors.
