The Opportunity Your role at Sephora As a Senior Manager of Market Research & Consumer Insights you will be a high-impact, highly visible ‘resident expert’ on what our clients and consumers at-large are doing, saying, and the ‘why’ underneath. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Market Research & Consumer Insights, you will skillfully create appropriate methodologies, execute primary market research, and be a true change agent for the business. In addition:

Establish new foresights practice as part of the market research and client insights team including evangelization of foresights to the broader org, team training, and new and relevant vendor partnerships and tools

Well versed in the foresights practice and understand role of macro trends and signals when delivering insights and foresights to a highly matrixed organization

Experience leveraging different resources, partners, and tools to get to foresight and activating in the business either independently or with market research

Oversee all foundational tracking research programs including Brand Equity and Brand Health including vendor management and report delivery

Holistically tie the “here and now” from foundational tracking and other research with bigger macro trends and foresights to tell a full story (short term and long term)

Design, execute, and lead qualitative and quantitative primary market research for Sephora North America: qualitative fieldwork (e.g. focus groups, in-home ethnographies, shopalongs, 1:1 interviews, etc.), and quantitative surveys. This includes vendor-led and DIY research (i.e. in-house survey design and programming, and analysis/reporting using various internal research tools and software)

Nimble and easily able to juggle multiple initiatives in a fast pace environment, able to work on a small but very mighty team where the ability to flex is crucial for success

Relationship builder, knows how to cultivate and leverage relationships to progress goals and achieve better outcomes

Comfortable presenting in front of senior audiences, and able to determine the altitude at which to present insights and data across different audiences

Analyze primary survey data–from cross-tabbing to regressions—and report in storytelling format

Work cross-functionally to marry disparate data sets (e.g. SAS transactional data, observational digital analytics data, secondary research data, etc.), and report out to org

Quickly connect the dots across research studies and different data sources

Influence via cross-functional partnerships, collaborations, and relationship building; Work closely with business partners to create strategies for the business grounded in data and consumer insight/intelligence

Help to oversee the team’s research operations, including but not limited to: managing survey calendar, coordinating with internal partners for customer sample targeting, managing external research vendors, QC of survey programs, coordinating and overseeing qualitative fieldwork logistics

We’re excited about you if you have:

6+ years of directly relevant experience (e.g. macro trends and foresights, conducting market research, consumer insights for retailer, management consulting)—Ideally 3+ years of which were spent supplier/agency side with exposure to large-scale engagements and execution of research across a wide range of topics/industries

General exposure to or understanding of Retail, FMCG, CPG, and/or Beauty industries—including marketing development timelines and product development/innovation pipelines—ideally related business experience in marketing, communications, business development, product design, user experience, brand management, consulting, and/or analytics

Expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods—including data analyses, statistical analyses (e.g. regression analysis), more complicated survey methods, cross-tabbing, sample design, fieldwork management

Ability to think both analytically and creatively—balance left and right brain—people person as well as data person

Excellent communication and storytelling abilities with proven track record of influencing business decisions/strategies

Confidence in designing and managing your own projects with oversight only as necessary; able to “live in the gray” and deal with ambiguity

Additional software/platform competencies: statistical package (e.g. SPSS, R, STATA, etc.), survey programming (e.g. Focus Vision Beacon, Qualtrics, etc.), and ideally SAS

The annual base salary range for this position is $151,810.00- $169,670.00 The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the applicant’s qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job. Individuals employed in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.
