The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP) educates 265 medical students and more than 300 physician residents and fellows annually. It provides clinical care to more than 31,000 patients annually and conducts basic science, clinical and outcomes research. UICOMP is a regional campus of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, a part of the University of Illinois Chicago and University of Illinois System. Position Summary The Marketing Associate (Social Media/Web Specialist) works under the direction of the Director of Strategic Communication and in unison with the web coordinator and Community Relations team in meeting campus objectives relative to marketing and communications. This position is responsible for an expanded social media footprint, content creation, social listening, social media metrics tracking and analysis. As well, this position plays a key role in cross‑functional application of content to the website, integrated marketing using social media, the website, and/or other digital channels. This role will plan and align campaigns to support strategic priorities, develop content and strategy to engage key constituents, and champion multi‑media and new media to integrate strategic UICOMP messaging to reach key stakeholders. The Marketing Associate will perform content updates and maintenance of the UICOMP website.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for development and implementation of a quantifiable social media footprint in unison with the overall marketing and communications strategy. Tracks, analyzes and documents social media metrics and reports on platform activity, engagement, and overall impact of social media outreach to the Director Strategic Communication and campus partners. Advises on strategy changes for various audiences, including the analysis, review and recommendations for new channels and/or applications. Evaluates outcomes and recommends changes in approach, strategy or process.
Develops, edits, schedules and posts innovative content across a variety of social media platforms based on social media marketing and brand strategy; creates, manages and resources assets for social media channels; ensures information and graphics are timely, accurate and current. Develops and manages project timelines.
Monitors social media channels and engages in active social listening and reporting while exercising excellent judgment in support of the social media/marketing strategy. Evaluates and anticipates potential crises/reputational issues arising on social media platforms and responds appropriately; Cross‑trained to support coordination of content, maintain current information on other communication channels such as web sites, internal monitors, emerging media platforms.
Assists with initial design and maintenance of secure web pages using the UICOMP Content Management System, maintains UICOMP brand and style standards, assists with preparing initial layouts, graphics/artwork, and formatting for responsive web design. Maintain site appearance by participating in the development and use of content and display standards; edit submissions; Use the content management system to edit/create pages in accordance with modern design standards .
Provides and/or assists with the initial design and implementation of templates and web‑based electronic forms and page layouts for the UICOMP website; assist with the web content management system to edit/create pages in accordance with University style/standards and modern design standards.
Establishes and grows relationships with UICOMP community, including alumni, donors, learners, campus groups, faculty and staff in an effort to develop content and promote engagement through social/digital media.
Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
Assists with the development/deployment of multi‑media messaging which may include but is not limited to: social media, digital advertising; video content; podcast, blog or vlog; and/or other emerging media. Participate in integrated marketing efforts involving multi‑media messaging involving social media and/or web‑based communication/marketing.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.
Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.
Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of and skill in multiple media platforms desired.
Solid understanding of elements of design and capability to design visually strong materials preferred.
Understanding of photography/videography and basic photo and video editing preferred.
Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and other design platforms preferred.
Knowledge of digital accessibility and techniques and applications to remediate files and content for improved accessibility preferred.
Strong communication skills desired.
Ability to identify potential crises/reputational issues arising on social media preferred.
Ability to meet deadlines on a budget desired.
