Manager, Grid Operations Technology (Hybrid) Overview and responsibilities

Plans, schedules, and manages the engineering and technical resources that develop and maintain the static and dynamic models associated with the Energy Management Systems (EMS) and the combined Transmission and Distribution System Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems in support of real time System Operations of the Transmission system, in compliance with NERC, NPCC, ISO-NE and any future policies and procedures. Plans, schedules, and manages the engineering and technical resources that develop and maintain the static and dynamic models associated with the Distribution Management System (DMS) and the combined Transmission and Distribution System Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems in support of real time operations at the Company’s System Operations Control Center (SOC) in line with Eversource processes and state regulatory requirements. Develop and update procedures to track and prioritize tool development for System Operations.

Provides technical leadership and guidance on complex engineering problems, leads design and execution of strategic OT system modernization plans, and directs and manages supervisors, engineers, technicians, and consultants across Transmission Planning and Distribution Project Teams. Ensures understanding of project economics, ISO generation markets, and their impact on the Eversource Transmission Business and customers. Prepares documents, testimonies, written responses, and presentations for local, state, and regulatory requirements.

Oversees the daily electric distribution model workflow from GIS data extraction through model build and validation for the outage management system (OMS) and the distribution management system (DMS) models.

Essential Functions:

Assists with establishment of goals, policies, plans, standards, performance objectives, and budget for operation of the Eversource power system.

Analyzes and recommends resource levels to plan, develop, and implement policies and practices; monitors operating and financial objectives and ensures alignment with organizational goals.

Responsible for operating support and maintenance of SCADA/EMS displays and coordination of outage applications with ISO-NE.

Communicates with internal and external stakeholders regarding planned system conditions related to OT processes on EMS, DMS, SCADA, OMS, DERMS, and related front-end servers.

Develops technology deployment plans to expand, upgrade, and enhance technology portfolios to meet changing business needs.

Develops and supervises Grid Operations Technology staff; manages, coaches, and develops personnel.

Assists in the development and implementation of best practices to improve transmission and distribution operations and dispatch; plans technological enhancements for Control Centers.

Responsible for accuracy of SCADA database and T&D SCADA models in EMS/DMS and validation of DMS/OMS distribution models.

Provides engineering leadership for OT product roadmap to initiate and upgrade new solutions enabling control room capabilities.

Coordinates with IT and other engineering staff for replacement, upgrade, and maintenance of EMS/DMS/SCADA/OMS/DERMS and related systems.

Evaluates telemetry communications architectures and implementations.

Coordinates development, testing, and maintenance of software to track critical system values for post-analysis of real-time conditions.

Maintains SCADA front-end communication servers and channels to remote RTUs; coordinates SCADA communications from front-end servers to remote RTUs between SOCs and field personnel.

Supports Control Center simulation IT systems and ensures T&D SCADA and EMS/DMS applications are properly maintained.

Provides seasonal analysis models and tools for System Operations (SCADA/EMS).

Maintains department capital and expense expenditures within budget and cash flow parameters.

Represent the organization on NERC, NPCC, NEPOOL/RTO task forces and committees as required.

Performs system optimization functions including load and generation forecasting, and support for operational planning studies and real-time configuration of advanced distribution applications (e.g., Volt-Var Optimization, FLISR, BESS).

Participates in Grid Modernization leadership to align with industry developments and maximize value over time.

Participates in industry forums as a subject matter expert to drive new capabilities and best practices.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Thorough knowledge of transmission and distribution electric system operation.

Thorough knowledge of process control and programming for utility-scale systems.

Knowledge of T&D control and outage management systems; familiarity with electrical engineering concepts and telecommunications technologies.

Strong analytical skills and experience with strategic development tools.

Business development aptitude with strong presentation skills; familiarity with grid modernization technologies.

Demonstrated competency in oral and written communications; customer-driven with initiative and accountability.

Ability to make sound decisions to support strategic objectives.

Education:

Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Electric Power Systems preferred); Engineering, Computer Science, or Business. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience:

Minimum ten years in technical, operational, or engineering aspects of transmission and distribution, including managerial or team leadership experience.

Experience with communication systems used for SCADA at an electric utility.

Experience within an electric utility operations control room is preferred.

Experience using and maintaining real-time systems used in an operations control room is preferred.

Working Conditions:

Must be available for emergency restoration assignments and to respond outside of normal hours as needed.

Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits:

Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for a potential incentive. The annual salary range is $158,140.00 - $175,710.00.
