Senior Software Developer – Information Technology Specialist III
Position Number: 00029. Full‑time, exempt, FLSA. This senior level role is part of the Information Technology Department and focuses on maximizing the value of the University’s information systems through database‑driven application development and integration.
Key Responsibilities
Develop web applications with real‑world design considerations, debugging, security, process improvement, and interface integration across multiple platforms.
Apply a comprehensive understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and industry best practices in secure software development.
Design and build databases and database objects, and analyze application requirements through customer meetings and business process observation.
Communicate independently with customers, technical and non‑technical stakeholders, and maintain productive relationships.
Create plans and schedules for development, launch, and support activities.
Analyse existing software and determine effective methods for interfacing applications and sharing data between systems.
Utilize IDEs and software development tools; demonstrate solid source control and lifecycle methodology knowledge.
Self‑train in new techniques, tools, and industry trends.
Assist in evaluating vendor proposals for hardware, software, and technical services to ensure adherence to specifications.
Qualifications
The required education is a high school diploma or equivalent.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field is a strong consideration.
Experience
Significant experience performing application development or programming in a production environment.
Significant experience in programming, web development, and software management tools.
Experience with ASP.NET and SQL; advanced experience with C# and ASP.NET is preferred.
Advanced experience with PL/SQL and related database technologies.
Desired Skills
Advanced proficiency with software management tools.
Strong background in C#, ASP.NET, and related .NET technologies.
Salary & Benefits Starting at $84,535, commensurate with education and experience. The position includes a comprehensive benefits package: retirement plans, medical, dental, vision, vacation, sick leave, and other Virginia state benefits.
Telework This position is eligible for periodic telework as determined by the department. Telework eligibility is not guaranteed and is subject to supervisor approval.
