The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist performs various laboratory procedures in assigned areas as licensed/certified. Responsible for managing assigned aspects of laboratory processes or shifts, including workflow, quality control, performance improvement activities, training of new employees, advanced problem solving for customers and coworkers, department equipment or computer maintenance and upgrades, writing/reviewing procedures, or other tasks assigned. Work involves analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens and requires a moderate to high degree of domain knowledge. Pre- and post-analytical work processes may be included. On-call hours may be required. Follows laboratory policies and procedures; maintains quality control practices. Participates in customer service and maintains respectful relationships. Provides orientation and training to new employees and medical technology students, acting as a preceptor and documenting orientation and training. Offers guidance to technical and support staff, resolves customer service issues, and supports education to clinical staff as appropriate. Follows safety policies including PPE use, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling. Participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities. Assists laboratory management with special projects as assigned. Manages quality assessment, technical oversight, problem-solving, scheduling, interviewing applicants, and training/competency evaluations. Performs pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, including equipment maintenance, function checks, inventory control, specimen collection, processing, cleaning and disinfection, quality control, and calibration. Performs all tests and analytical procedures accurately according to procedures and standards. Reads, interprets complex test results and serves as a resource for complex tests and procedures. Performs post-analytical activities, reporting results in accordance with procedures and providing information for all age groups. Leads quality control and quality assurance testing. Manages instrument maintenance and troubleshooting practices. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed Bachelor's in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, OR medical technology from an accredited institution OR Bachelor's degree equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses 2 years of technical experience Licensure, Certification Or Registration Required
