Accounting Clerk Lead Warrant Deputy

TITLE: ACCOUNTING CLERK LEAD GRADE: 20
Scope of Responsibility Performs a complex variety of skilled clerical and accounting duties as required by the Treasurer's Office. Requires a wide range of clerical and fiscal skills to perform independently in accordance with established policies and procedures and in compliance with applicable State law.
Typical Duties
Independently reconciling, filing, tracking, and balancing all warrants issued by the County, Schools and Hospital Districts. Liaison with bank officials, financial officials, schools, hospitals and other County offices to facilitate the coordination of all warrants issued. Responsible to ensure that fraudulent issuances are not allowed to pass into or through the system. Enter and post to the general ledger for interface with County's Accounting Software.
Enter P/R and A/P into Treasurer's software for interface with the County's Accounting Software.
Submit bond, interest, and bond fee payments for the County, Schools, Hospitals and Jr. Districts in coordination with the County Treasurer. Receipts bond fiscal agent interest for districts as applicable.
Prepare Annual and monthly Reports in coordination with the Chief Deputy Treasurer. Consolidate and balance monthly totals into accurate reports of sufficient quality to present as the Treasurer's statement of fact for the State Audit and to provide accurate information for the County Auditor's Annual Report.
Provide backup in the Office at the counter and on the phone to help with paying taxes, answering questions, processing payments, and providing assistance to the Real Estate Tax Affidavit process.
Work with other staff on bulk mailings, mail opening, and payment entry into Treasurer's software at tax time, along with such other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications Required:
High School diploma, GED or equivalent
Two (2) years of bookkeeping/accounting experience
Proficient ten key skills and computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet and database applications)
Preferred:
College level course work in accounting/business
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of general accounting/bookkeeping procedures and practices
Ability to perform precise and accurate mathematical functions; requires attention to detail
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to follow procedures and comprehend tax laws related to work performed
Possession of valid Washington State Drivers' License; ability to obtain First Aid certification
