Overview

As a CNC Programmer, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing computer numerical control (CNC) programs used to maximize efficiency in aerospace manufacturing precision components. You will also be involved in maintaining, debugging, and troubleshooting programs to ensure smooth continuous operations. You will interpret blueprints and design programs to ensure Phoenix Manufacturing, Inc.’s flight-critical aerospace components are delivered on time, on budget, to satisfied customers. Develop and write advanced CNC programs/toolpaths for a variety of machines including 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC machines for complex aerospace parts based on engineering drawings and specifications. Generate program code using CAM software to capture all part details. Edit G-code manually and create custom post-processors for CAM programs to ensure optimal machine performance and accuracy. Analyze code behavior to diagnose problems, debug, and correct issues. Ensure cutting tool selection, feeds, and speeds are appropriate, considering design specifications, materials, and tool ranges. Maintain a master CNC program directory with proper file management to ensure program integrity. Attend engineering/production meetings to report status of projects, highlight needs and issues, and participate in discussions. Assist in the design of jigs, tools, fixtures, and special equipment for CNC applications and assembly; design tooling for CNC lathes, mills, and 5-axis production. Develop and determine manufacturing processes to improve productivity, standardize processes, solve production problems, and minimize costs and cycle times while maintaining specifications. Produce components for prototypes as well as parts for new product development. Continuously evaluate and improve existing CNC programs for efficiency and quality. Create setup sheets and work instructions to hand off programs to production control. Collaborate with the production team to troubleshoot and resolve issues during machining. Maintain or improve legacy part quality standards and cycle times with process improvements in accordance with customer and company standards, deliveries, internal procedures, and protocols. Stay informed of industry trends and new technologies to drive innovation within the company. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, customers, or vendors via verbal or written means. Participate in safety, hazardous material handling, and disposal requirements in accordance with government regulations and company procedures. Work as a team player in a fast-paced environment with Manufacturing, Operations, and Production Control. Maintain a clean work environment in compliance with internal, customer, and government regulations. Interconnect with Production/Shop Floor management on issues and corrective actions as required. Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed. Assist in preparing and controlling estimates, statistics, and reports regarding Engineering activities. Perform all tasks within Quality System Management (QMS) requirements and assist with estimating manufacturing as requested. Contribute to other engineering activities as needed. High School Diploma or Equivalent. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred. Minimum of ten (10) years CNC programming experience on 4- and 5-axis multi-axis machining centers with advanced tools and technology. Proficient in programming CNC milling from blueprints, 3D models, specifications, etc. Broad understanding of cutting tool geometry and coatings as applied to hybrid metal alloys. Experience with MasterCAM; SolidWorks and Vericut. Experience applying lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma problem solving. Experience working in AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems in a manufacturing environment. Proficient with ERP systems (Global Shop). Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail with a sense of urgency. Understanding of customer design specifications and requirements. Understanding of common industry specifications (materials, coatings/plating, NDT, etc.). Understanding of complex aerospace blueprints, technical charts, and specification sheets. Ability to communicate technical knowledge clearly and effectively. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, internally and externally. Ability to adapt, prioritize, multi-task, and remain flexible to changes; responds with urgency. Strong knowledge of GD&T blueprints and ability to interpret them accurately.
