What To Expect Tesla is seeking to hire a Controls Technician to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join us to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.

What You'll Do

Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and installation of industrial automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, actuators, and control panels

Support commissioning and startup of automated equipment by verifying wiring, programming, and calibration of control devices

Diagnose and repair electrical, instrumentation, and communication issues in production equipment to minimize downtime

Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on control systems, sensors, servo drives, and VFDs

Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, and wiring diagrams

Participate in controls and electrical design, as well as PLC and HMI code development and improvement

Document all control changes, wiring updates, and troubleshooting activities according to internal standards

Ensure compliance with safety, electrical, and quality procedures (NFPA 70E, UL 508A, OSHA)

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Maintenance, Engineering, Production) to resolve automation-related issues and support process improvements

What You'll Bring

Over 1-3 years engineering experience in automation controls and instrumentation field

Experience in one or more of the following PLC systems: Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff, or Allen Bradley

Experience in motion and process controls

Field experiences troubleshooting end-to-end controls, including power distribution, electrical components and instruments, PLCs, and HMIs

Experience in industrial communication protocols – Ethernet, RS232/485, EtherCAT, and/or Profinet

Basic knowledge of NFPA70, NFPA76, UL508A, and ISA

Basic understanding in electrical design using AutoCAD or Eplan

Experience on Ignition is a plus

Expected Compensation $24.40 - $50.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
