The Opportunity As a DCYF After-Hours Social Service Specialist, you will assist Region 1 during non-business hours. You will respond to and investigate reports of abuse and neglect when local Division of Children and Family Service offices are closed. We’re looking for After-Hours Social Service Specialists (SSS3) to join our Moses Lake office and help protect children, youth, and families.
Responsibilities
Respond to emergent requests and other after-hours requests.
Meet required timeframes and complete documentation/paperwork in the FAMLINK database.
Gather and document sufficient information to assess present danger and take protective action if danger is identified.
Conduct 24-hour emergent face-to-face contacts for CPS Investigation cases, 72-hour non-emergent face-to-face contacts for CPS/FAR cases, and monthly Health and Safety visits on CFWS and FVS cases.
Observe and document the living environment, physical condition, and behaviors of children.
Follow Agency Policy for Photograph Documentation when photographing a child’s physical condition or environment to document child abuse or neglect.
Respond to Protective Custody inquiries, partnering with law enforcement, when needed.
Qualifications Required qualifications : The goal class is a Social Service Specialist 3; however, we will consider candidates at the Social Service Specialist 1 and 2 levels with an In-Training plan. There are two In-Training plan options:
Option 1
– Experience with Required Credits OR Degree with the Required Credits
Social Service Specialist 1: Four (4) years of paid work experience in one of the following areas: caring for children, social care, counseling youth, education, or home visitations AND 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Service discipline; OR a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Social Service, Human Service, or Behavioral Science, or any completed Bachelor’s degree with 30 credits in a Social Service discipline.
Social Service Specialist 2: Five (5) years of paid social service experience AND 30 credits in a Social Service discipline OR a Bachelor’s degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or any degree with 30 credits in a Social Service discipline AND one year of paid social service experience OR a Master’s degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or a related field with required practicum.
Social Service Specialist 3: Six (6) years of paid social service experience AND 30 credits in a Social Service discipline OR a Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND two years of paid social service experience OR a Master’s degree in a related field AND one year of paid social service experience OR one year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 2. Paid experience must include at least one year of assessing risk and safety to children and providing direct family-centered services.
Option 2
– Experience or Degree without the Required Credits
For applicants with four years of paid work experience in caring for children, social care, counseling youth, education, or home visitation but without 30 credits in the social service field, or applicants with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in an unrelated field who are willing to obtain the required credits within 18 months of hire. Employment starts at Social Service Specialist 1 and you must complete the educational requirements within 18 months to advance.

Ability to apply child safety and risk assessment to complex situations involving child abuse and imminent risk of serious harm.
Experience displaying critical thinking and using shared decision-making.
Experience using the FAMLINK case management system and documenting case information within timeframes.
Worker Core Training (WCT) As a Social Service Specialist, you are required to successfully complete a mandatory 9.5-week Worker Core Training. The training covers risk and safety assessment, child well-being support, information gathering, and case and permanency planning. Training includes four weeks at the Seattle training site with travel support for eligible participants. The curriculum includes understanding the child welfare system, RCW related to child welfare, policies and procedures, safety assessment, records collection, and court-related preparations.
Salary Ranges
Social Service Specialist 3 (Range 58): $32.56 - $43.80/hr
Social Service Specialist 2 (Range 56): $31.02 - $41.69/hr
Social Service Specialist 1 (Range 51): $27.42 – $36.86/hr
