After-Hours Social Service Specialist In-Training 1-3 (SSS3)

Location:

Moses Lake, WA – On-Call. Offices closed from 5 pm to 8 am each day, weekends, and holidays. Hourly workload varies by call volume and availability.

Salary:

$27.52 – $43.80 per hour. Eligible for 10 % assignment pay when reaching Social Service Specialist 3.

Opportunity As a DCYF After-Hours Social Service Specialist, you will assist Region 1 during non‑business hours by responding to and investigating reports of abuse and neglect when local Division of Children and Family Services offices are closed.

Responsibilities

Respond to emergent and other after‑hours requests.

Meet required timeframes and complete documentation in FAMLINK.

Gather sufficient information to assess present danger and take protective action when needed.

Conduct 24‑hour emergent face‑to‑face contacts for CPS investigation cases, 72‑hour non‑emergent face‑to‑face contacts for CPS/FAR cases, and monthly Health & Safety visits on CFWS and FVS cases.

Observe and document children’s living environment, physical condition, and behaviors.

Follow agency policy for photographing child abuse/neglect evidence.

Respond to Protective Custody inquiries, partnering with law enforcement when necessary.

Qualifications Required Qualification : Social Service Specialist 3 (but candidates at levels 1–2 may be considered through the In‑Training plan).

In‑Training Plan Option #1

At least four (4) years of on‑job social service experience and 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Service discipline, OR a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Social Service, Human Service, Behavioral Science, or a degree field with the required credits.

Option also covers Social Service Specialist 1, 2, and 3 level requirements – see detailed bullet list below.

In‑Training Plan Option #2

Four (4) years of paid work experience in caring for children, social care, counseling youth, education, or home visitations and willing to obtain the required 30‑semester/45‑quarter credits within 18 months.

Alternatively, a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in an unrelated field with willingness to obtain the required credits within 18 months.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

Ability to apply child safety and risk assessment to complex situations involving abuse/neglect.

Demonstrated critical thinking and shared decision‑making skills.

Experience using FAMLINK case management and timely documentation.

Worker Core Training (WCT) All Social Service Specialists must complete a 9.5‑week mandatory Worker Core Training, covering child welfare system, RCW, policies, risk assessment, recordkeeping, court reporting, and more.

Salary Ranges by Level

Specialist 3: $32.56–$43.80 /hr

Specialist 2: $31.02–$41.69 /hr

Specialist 1: $27.42–$36.86 /hr
