$65,000.00/yr - $75,000.00/yr Reports to: Manager, Sustainability Services New York, NY Bright Power is seeking a highly organized, dedicated, and enthusiastic Field Engineer to join our New Construction team. Field Engineers work with Bright Power Project Managers, real estate developers, contractors, architects, and mechanical engineers to consult on decarbonization, building performance, and sustainability through the design and construction phases of new construction and rehabilitation projects predominantly in the New York City metro area, pursuing various certification and incentive programs, including Energy Star, Enterprise Green Communities, LEED, and Passive House standards.
Primary tasks
Field Work
Performing field verification and testing for LEED, Enterprise Green Communities, ENERGY STAR, and Passive House projects
Performing testing including envelope air tightness (blower door) and duct leakage testing
Perform construction inspections and testing to ensure quality installation of building envelope and mechanical systems
Track progress of multiple projects simultaneously and work with external construction teams to keep projects on track to meet performance/program goals
Photo documentation organization and submission to 3rd party reviewers and certification bodies
Site report generation and technical writing
Project Management and administrative tasks including:
Organizing and maintaining project folders and resources
Calculating testing thresholds for site visits based on testing standards
Reviewing construction submittals across projects pursuing sustainability programs
Advise on decarbonization and sustainability as it relates to all aspects of a project (envelope, systems, configuration, materials, constructability, site related improvements, active design, etc.)
Recommend energy efficiency and resiliency strategies supported by engineering calculations, building science, and simulations
Complete documentation associated with program compliance and liaison with partner program administrators
Qualifications
Ideal Candidates Will Have:
Education: Degree related to Architecture, Engineering, Construction, or other relevant programs
OSHA 10 or 30 preferred
PHIUS Verifier or HERS Rater preferred
Multifamily residential project experience (preferred); single-family residential experience will be considered
Knowledge of PHIUS, PHI, ENERGY STAR MFNC, EGC, LEED NC, and other rating/certification programs
Experience with construction inspections, testing, or construction management
Experience with or understanding of building energy modeling and analyzing results
Experience in engineering or architecture with emphasis on building performance and sustainability
Ability to read, interpret, and adjust architectural/mechanical plans and construction documents
Understanding of engineering calculations for mechanical design, heating/cooling loads, and ventilation; knowledge of building science and envelope design
Experience with performance testing of large buildings with complex systems and envelopes
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong problem-solving and independent troubleshooting abilities
Ability to analyze and disseminate data clearly
Strong adaptable communication and writing abilities
Proactive and capable of leading a project team to implement high-performance practices
Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
Bright Power provides a modern and flexible hybrid office environment with expectation of in-office presence a minimum of 2 days per week. The office offers free healthy snacks and beverages, weekly engagements, and a monthly company meeting with lunch provided. The office has bookable meeting spaces and flexible desk spaces. Building is secure with swipe access; typical office hours are 7am-10pm.
