Franklin Park, IL. Ferrero is a global company that is privately owned by the Ferrero family. The company has grown from a small Italian confectionary shop to a multinational group producing brands such as Nutella, Tic Tac, Ferrero Rocher, and Kinder Joy. This position is located in Franklin Park (Chicago), a major Ferrero plant with 700+ employees, producing Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, and Nips. The Quality Lab/Incoming Supervisor is a key management role in the Ferrero Quality Organization and is in charge of managing the laboratory executing microbiological, chemical, physical and sensorial analysis. The scope includes incoming materials (raw materials and packaging), semi-finished, finished products and environmental testing. As a member of the Quality Leadership Team of the plant, this position reports directly to the Head of Quality. Manage directly a team of 7 members and collaborate with Production, R&D/Technology and the Central Quality Laboratory in Europe. This role supports the plant’s transition to Ferrero standards, with a new Laboratory, new analytical equipment and methodology under this position.
Responsibilities
Laboratory Development and Management Contributes to the definition of analytical strategy, in collaboration with the Plant Quality Manager and Central Laboratory Propose new equipment, new methodologies and manage the budget associated Manage outsourced analysis and act as the key contact for external labs Ensure that Good Laboratory Practices are met and pursue continuous improvement Act as a coach and provide technical support in implementing new methodologies or troubleshooting Ensure that Safety Programs are in place Be a key member of the Food Safety Team Incoming Raw materials and Packaging Management Manage the Laboratory schedule and program to ensure analyses are executed efficiently and timely Organize, coordinate and manage the sampling program Review analytical results and provide interpretation Based on interpretation, oversee material release by the team and issue Non-Conformance in Incoming Provide trend analysis to the Quality Manager with recommendations Guarantee the accuracy and precision of results according to regulations and participate in Ring Test Responsible for managing stock status (hold, release and in inspection) Team management and ensuring all activities are performed accurately and on time Ensure all team members are trained on related procedures and operate in accordance with work instructions Organize work schedules and priorities of the team Manage yearly performance evaluations of direct reports Manage development of each team member Education and Experience
B.Sc Degree in Microbiology and/or Chemistry, Food Science preferred, or related field Minimum 4 years in a Quality Lab Supervisor/Manager role in a plant in the food industry Qualifications and Skills
Familiar with Food safety systems and quality systems Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices Knowledge and experience in Root Cause Analysis Quality Assurance experience in a food manufacturing environment Experience with GFSI standards (FSSC 22000, SQF, BRC) required; ISO17025 is a plus People management experience Excellent analytical and organizational skills Strong communication skills in a multi-cultural environment Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and deadlines Good knowledge and practice of laboratory analysis Proficient in computer systems, data analysis, and Microsoft Office Proficiency in SAP is an added advantage Compensation and Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $90,770 - $121,027 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This range represents the anticipated salary for this position at this time.
