Philosophy Adjunct Faculty Pool Position Type:

Adjunct salary schedule (adjusted annually in January). Position closed December 31, 2022.

Summary:

This posting is a pool for those interested in teaching philosophy courses at Howard Community College (HCC). Courses include Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Logic, Introduction to Ethics. The pool will be cleared annually in January, and applicants should reapply if interested. Adjunct faculty may teach 1–3 courses each semester, depending on enrollment needs and skill match. Teaching in any mode requires use of the learning management system Canvas and participation in required course assessments. Adjunct faculty are invited to participate in professional development.

Essential Role Responsibilities

Prepare course materials and Canvas course site as guided by the philosophy instructional team.

Deliver quality instruction appropriate to the mode of instruction.

Meet with students in person or virtually.

Grade and assess student work promptly.

Attend required faculty meetings.

Complete required trainings and other employment‑related requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

A master’s degree in philosophy or a closely related discipline, or significant graduate work toward that degree.

Prior teaching experience, especially college teaching in philosophy.

Ability to use or learn the Canvas learning management system for course information, communication, and delivery in hybrid and online modes.

Location and Eligibility:

Applicants must reside in states contiguous to Maryland (Virginia, West Virginia, Washington DC, Pennsylvania) or be willing to relocate independently.
