Overview

Location: US:WI:MILWAUKEE at our FROEDTERT HOSPITAL facility. This job is ON - SITE. FTE: 0.40. Standard Hours: 16.00. Shift Details: Rotating. Job Summary: Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Extern provides routine care and assists patients with activities of daily living. Responsible to the Patient Care Director of the assigned unit and the RNs on duty on each shift. Other duties as assigned. Experience Description

A minimum two acute care medical-surgical clinical rotations (or one medical-surgical rotation and one clinical rotation pertinent to the applied area) from an accredited nursing school is required, or one medical-surgical clinical rotation with pertinent work experience. At least one clinical rotation must have included medication administration. Nursing courses/clinicals must cover patient care procedures, physical assessments, history data collection, nursing care plans, and medical record documentation. Six months or more as a nursing assistant is preferred. Education Description

Currently enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing is required, or a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing waiting to retake the NCLEX exam. Special Skills Description

Ability to read, write, understand, perform simple arithmetic, and follow directions related to basic patient care. Interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors, and physicians in a courteous manner. Ability to perform simple numeric comparisons. Ability to perform 60 percent of essential functions. Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail for 80 percent of work time when performing basic patient care tasks. Ability to walk and stand for up to 80 percent of work time and to lift and position patients for up to 20 percent of work time. Licensure Description

State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification is preferred; otherwise, documentation from an accredited school for professional nurses indicating successful completion of the basic nursing course sufficient for the Wisconsin administrative code. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire. Perks & Benefits
