Under general supervision, manages comprehensive, clinical nutrition therapy programs for ANMC patients. Assesses nutritional needs and provides nutrition counseling/education to inpatients and their families. Responsibilities
Develops nutrition care plan for patient and family in coordination with all members of the health care team with short-term and long-term goals. Identifies educational needs of the patient and family and provides culturally sensitive nutrition counseling and education that is patient-directed, patient focused and specifically relevant to the expressed needs of the patient and family. Acts as a resource person and provides technical assistance in the development and implementation of clinical protocols, including baseline measures, intervention strategies, effective educational techniques and programs. Provides data on procedures, results and outcomes to health care providers and supervisors. Participates in medical rounds including but not limited to pediatrics, critical care, internal medicine, central nervous system and surgery. Participates in committees such as Nutrition Education Coordinating Committee (NEMCC), Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Critical Care Committee, Pediatric Intensive Care Committee, UAA Dietetic Intern Steering Committee, Nursing/Foodservice Committee, Health Education Committee, etc. Serves as a preceptor and mentor to UAA dietetic interns. Participates in the CQI process. Other Information
Performs other duties as assigned or required. Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of principles of nutrition and meal preparation. Knowledge of food service concepts, practices and procedures for institutions. Knowledge of The Joint Commission nutrition standards. Knowledge of budget analysis and reporting techniques. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and concepts of disease. Knowledge of customer service concepts and corporate practices. Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques and standards. Knowledge of Alaskan culture. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal and local regulations and programs. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in program techniques of development. Skill in presenting information to public groups. Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Skill in effectively managing and leading staff, and delegating tasks and authority. Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications. Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or related field AND five (5) years of clinical experience including two (2) years of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a current State of Alaska Dietitian or Nutritionist License. Additional Requirements: Must possess American Dietetic Association certification as Registered Dietician or Nutritionist. Additional Requirements: May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule. May be called out to work off-shift in emergency situations. ANMC is not a latex free environment.
