The Laboratory Research Operations Analyst 2 functions as the Research Lab Manager, directing and managing daily operations and organization of the Cancer Epigenetics Group led by Dr Manel Esteller at The James Comprehensive Cancer Center and as Director of Cancer Genomics Research at The Targeted Oncology Research Institute (TORI) at The OSUCCC-James and Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine – Medical Oncology at The Ohio State Department. The candidate supports the collaborative and individual research operations of Dr Esteller and his laboratory; serves as technical resource in the lab; develops and implements new lab protocols; and independently performs experiments as directed. Provides supervision of the work of students, post-docs and other trainees, and technicians; ensures compliance with all safety standards by laboratory personnel; directs, oversees and authorizes purchases; negotiates pricing with external vendors; orders lab equipment and supplies, ensuring expenses remain within budget; manages and coordinates equipment servicing, maintenance, and repair; develops and updates lab procedures as needed; assists administrative documents including material transfer agreements; prepares and maintains regulatory protocols - chemical hygiene plan (CHP), exposure control plan (ECP), biosafety (IBC), animal use (IACUC), and human subjects (IRB) protocol – initial, continuing reviews, and amendment submissions, and management (study team changes, etc.); assists with animal work as needed; contributes to manuscript preparation and submissions; acts as the point of contact between Dr. Esteller and his staff for any range of issues, including technical advice, regulatory protocol assistance, and shared equipment and space allocation issues. The candidate will also coordinate and perform the management and technical activities related to Illumina BeadArray technology (DNA methylation and SNO microarray platform).
