UVA Health Starting pay - $26.40/hour* depending on years of experience. Overview

Primary responsibilities include gathering needed supplies and instrumentation for surgical procedures according to the surgeon's preference card. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates the needs of the surgical team. Ensures adherence to aseptic technique by all team members. Works independently in general surgical procedures, select specialty cases, and may precept new hires. Responsibilities

Differentiates between sterile and unsterile items processed by various sterilization methods. Prepares surgical cases by gathering instruments, supplies and equipment for general to moderately complex procedures. Provides a safe patient care environment. Understands principles of aseptic technique and sterile conscience. Has working knowledge of surgical procedures and patient anatomy. Maintains environmental safety for patient, self, and team. Acts as a preceptor for new staff in the scrub role. Assumes beginning leadership roles under mentor guidance. One year of experience as a surgical technologist (preferred). Minimum Requirements

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Currently enrolled or graduated from a CAHEEP/AHEBS-accredited surgical technologist program or NCCT-approved program. Experience:

No experience required. Licensure:

BLS required. Certified Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA or NCCT required at start date. Current registration with Virginia Board of Medicine required at time of hire. Physical Demands

Standing for prolonged periods; repetitive motion of passing instruments; ability to lift/push/pull 50-100 lbs. Proficient communication, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail; ability to lift/carry heavy instrument sets. May be exposed to cold, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
