Overview The position of Rigging Design Engineer involves supporting the Operations and Installation teams in drafting equipment floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, and details of mounted and rigged equipment. It includes converting measurements or 2D drawings of physical environments into 3D models and addressing installation-related questions from the field.

Responsibilities

Supports the Engineering and Operations Teams: attend, design, and project kick-off meetings, and other project-related meetings as necessary.

Draft equipment floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, and details of mounted and rigged equipment (e.g., speaker arrays, projection systems, drapery track systems, and dead-hung, counterweight, and automated rigging systems).

Develop bills of materials/hardware schedules for drafted rigging systems to support ordering and staging rigging hardware.

Convert measurements and/or 2D drawings into 3D models to facilitate modeling and drafting shop/build drawings in Revit.

Collaborate with AV and lighting engineers on construction drawings for interdisciplinary projects (AVLRD).

Review drawing packages drafted by other engineers and review existing bills-of-material for functional completeness per project scope.

Author change orders for contracted projects as needed and respond to technical questions from the Operations team during installation; update installation documentation as needed according to installation schedules.

Develop and maintain knowledge of current and new technologies offered by The Clearwing Group; maintain relationships with vendors and assist in the development and implementation of technical standards and processes.

Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to develop and maintain a continuing education plan.

Skills and Experience

Extensive knowledge of performance rigging and scenic systems, including 5+ years of design, installation, technical theatrical, or touring/production experience.

High proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD and/or Autodesk REVIT and experience in SketchUp.

In-depth knowledge of construction documentation (floor plans, RCPs, building sections, schematics, and riser diagrams).

Understanding of consultant specification documentation.

Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet project-driven deadlines.

Ability and desire to work in a team-oriented, interdisciplinary culture.

Process improvement mindset; strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ownership and use of a smartphone for app-based communication platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of audio system modeling programs (e.g., Soundvision).

ETCP Certified Rigger – Theatre and ETC Rigging Authorized Service Provider certifications.

Physical Working Conditions

Sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and using hands to operate computers, phones, keyboards, tablets, and smartphones.

Close-vision requirements due to computer work; ability to sit at a computer for extended periods.

Light to moderate lifting may be required; regular, predictable attendance is expected.
