This role reports to the CEO. What you'll do
Oversee all aspects of the SPARC Plant to ensure maximum uptime, operational readiness, and scientific productivity Lead, build, and mentor the SPARC Plant team, fostering a positive, collaborative, and high-performance culture Collaborate with senior leadership across CFS to align plant operations with company priorities Develop and manage the plant's budget and staffing plans to maximize productivity and success Establish and continuously improve processes and systems for safe, efficient operation of a first-of-a-kind fusion facility Serve as a key interface between the SPARC Plant team and other leaders within CFS Support strategic interactions with the external scientific community and other stakeholders through the Open Innovation team What we’re looking for
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear), Physics, or a related technical field 15+ years of progressive experience, with at least 8-10 years in a senior leadership role managing a complex, high-consequence technical facility Experience leading a large team (at least 200+ employees) with direct reports and managers Extensive experience operating and maintaining large process systems (chemicals, cryogenics, oil/gas, or similar) Strong technical knowledge of complex processes and electrical systems in large facilities Directed a $500M+ lab or research effort from concept to construction and operation Proven ability to build, lead, and mentor high-performing technical and operational teams Experience in operational excellence, including process development, budget management, and strategic resource planning Exceptional leadership and communication skills for diverse audiences Strong people management skills for both small and large teams Mentoring skills for engineers and technicians; ability to build trust with frontline employees Adaptability to rapid change and a strong safety culture Bonus points for
Master's, PhD, or MBA Experience with commissioning and operation of first-of-a-kind systems or facilities Must-have requirements
Perform activities such as typing or sitting for extended periods Willingness to travel or work nights/weekends/on-call as required Work in a facility with industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, high voltage, pressure systems, and cryogenics Benefits
