Job Duties

Performance Management (for employees who supervise others)

Safety issues are reviewed and communicated to assure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absences.

Housekeeping Management

Establishes schedule of duty/cleaning assignments of staff daily; effectively providing adequate coverage to perform cleaning duties in all patient care and non-patient care areas.

Inspects patient care units daily to ensure adequate delivery of housekeeping services and an acceptable level of cleanliness to ensure infection control measures are taken; initiates corrective actions as needed.

Provides guidance to both Housekeeping Workers and Lead Workers to ensure proper cleaning techniques in accordance with established policies and procedures and other safety regulations (blood-borne pathogens, OSHA, EPA guidelines).

Ensures cleaning equipment is available for use by housekeeping staff daily.

Assists with interviewing and hiring of housekeeping employees, displaying professionalism and effective communication.

Acts in the supervisory capacity for the department in the absence of the Housekeeping Manager.

Administrative Support

Assists with the preparation of the bi-weekly workdays for staff to ensure minimum staff coverage 7-days per week in all areas of patient care.

Assess the quality of work performance and complete assigned portions of performance evaluations by established deadlines with proper documentation.

Provides oversight and training of staff regarding isolation cleaning procedures and safety regulations (blood-borne pathogens, OSHA, EPA).

Provides oversight and training of staff regarding the use of e-mail and internet usage in accordance with policies.

Performs cleaning log checks and spot checks to ensure proper use of cleaning chemicals; notifies the Housekeeping Manager of discrepancies.

Follows up on maintenance repair requests to ensure timely completion and safety.

Maintains/orders supply of chemicals and cleaning supplies using automated ordering methods within budget.

Laundry/Linen & Housekeeping Duties

Communicates with laundry contractor personnel concerning linen levels, problem resolution, and attends quarterly laundry meetings.

Records weights/counts of soiled linen/mops and verifies contractor invoices for payment.

Keeps the Housekeeping Manager apprised of linen issues/needs in a timely manner.

Assists with cleaning of units and other areas as needed to provide coverage during absences.

Minimum Qualifications

Proficient in use of computer applications (word processing, database, etc.) and other office equipment. Knowledge and application of cleaning methods and chemicals; ability to write brief correspondence reflecting knowledge of spelling, grammar and composition; strong communication skills; ability to manage multiple tasks. Demonstrates competencies as defined on Competency Assessment.
