Peer Support Specialist – College of Medicine, Institute for Juvenile Research Location : Chicago, IL, USA

FTE : 1

Work Schedule : Monday – Friday, Days Shift, On‑Site

Salary : $25.64 – $30.76 per hour (commensurate with experience)

Responsibilities

Conduct outreach, education, and engagement activities to identify and recruit participants for MOUD clinical research.

Recruit study participants, maintain contact with enrolled participants, and keep high retention rates in follow‑up assessments.

Complete required clinical research and IRB training.

Maintain logs of all outreach, engagement, recruitment, and follow‑up activities.

Engage in community outreach at food distribution sites, needle and syringe exchange programs, health clinics, hospital emergency departments, and community events.

Adhere to confidentiality, privacy protections, and maintain professional boundaries with opioid‑use disorder clients and participants.

Attend local or national meetings and conferences to discuss peer outreach activities and disseminate research findings.

Track and manage community outreach, engagement, recruitment, and follow‑up activities in collaboration with the study team.

Attend all scheduled meetings with the site Project Director or study leadership.

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

One (1) year (12 months) of lived experience in sustained recovery and reentry related to substance abuse (illicit drug or alcohol dependency). (Note: This may include personal experience as a parent, guardian, or loved one who has supported someone through recovery.)

Eighteen (18) months of work experience comparable to a Peer Support Assistant in this series. Possession of a valid and current State of Illinois driver’s license and proof of insurance are required.

Certification in the area of specialization from an accredited organization may substitute for the work experience requirement if not pursued.
