at

Qnity

– Global Automation team. The selected candidate will provide leadership, support a global community, develop technology roadmaps with site engineers, and assist sites with project execution. The ideal candidate will have detailed expertise in designing and commissioning automated equipment for discrete processes, with a concentration in 3D modelling, product data management (PDM), and simulation. Design and development will range from improvements to existing manufacturing equipment to development of new, custom-designed equipment. Lean Automation techniques will be used to optimize layouts through value stream maps (VSMs) and process simulation. The engineer will develop and vet concepts, proof-of-principle designs, prototypes, and commercial-scale equipment.

Key Responsibilities Develop first-of-a-kind custom equipment including conceptualizing new processes and equipment based on business requirements.

Design components and machines in a modular way for reuse in subsequent machines and to allow easy component changes.

Collaborate with operations, maintenance, safety, and engineering to design improvements to existing equipment.

Provide expertise in mechanical layout to support projects at sites.

Provide expertise in 3D modelling, PDM, and simulation.

Collaborate with site stakeholders to understand challenges and provide automated solutions that minimize impact on production and comply with change control protocols.

Collaborate with internal and external suppliers to design, fabricate, and qualify equipment.

Collaborate on multiple projects simultaneously as a technical expert.

Support the EHS organization with investigations and action items.

Support DuPont S1M machine safety standard for the E&I Integrated Operations organization; participate in machine risk assessments (MRAs) during design and execution.

Develop equipment standards to support leveraged engineering and deploy technology across the organization.

Provide technical expertise for Management of Change, including acting as a technical reviewer of site MOC processes.

Qualifications 10+ years of experience in a discrete manufacturing environment focused on detailed mechanical design and maintenance of automated equipment.

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with coursework concentration in machine design and process simulation.

Ability to travel to manufacturing sites (average ~30% of time).

High proficiency with CAD/CAM software including SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

Experience deploying and standardizing a PDM system for a robotic integrator or manufacturing site.

Preferred: Experience with robotic simulation environments (ABB RobotStudio and KUKA.Sim).

Preferred: Experience importing models and documentation to Nvidia Omniverse.

Experience with Machine Risk Assessments, Performance Level calculations, and Validation Plans.

Experience with mechanical and/or electrical fabrication technology.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a diverse team.
