Georgia State University – Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Enterprise Data Management and Analytics (EDMA) is responsible for the collection, development, and maintenance of the university-wide data warehouse. This office provides resources that support data analysis, reporting needs, and strategic planning and policy-making processes. Position
Analyst Programmer, Lead
at Georgia State University
The EDMA team is responsible for the university-wide data warehouse. This role involves planning, developing, testing, and documenting integrated computer application programs for the data warehouse, ensuring data accuracy and security. The position requires gathering and analyzing business processes from varied GSU application systems, designing, building, and maintaining centralized data storage, and documenting related steps and outcomes. Key skills include creating data models, developing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and data integration. Strong coordination with cross-functional and technical teams (database administrators, data stewards, IT technicians) is essential to support campus decision-making.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic, analytical, governance, and systems support for a data warehouse to optimize the use of Georgia State University’s data resources. Analyze business processes and evaluate user requests for new or modified programs. Support end users with data definitions and usage; assist in writing queries against warehouse tables. Develop the warehouse data dictionary and documentation of warehouse business practices. Participate in Data Governance as functional and technical writer. Provide support for Pentaho servers and client environments. Assist in source-to-target data mapping; help build data models by designing rules and key constraints. Test, document, and perform quality assurance on code; assist in peer code reviews.
Qualifications
Minimum Hiring Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience, or a combination of education and related experience. Preferred Hiring Qualifications: Work experience in higher education, particularly institutional data warehousing, is highly desirable. Advanced knowledge of relational database design and Oracle PL/SQL and SQL. Extensive experience with Hitachi Vantara Analytics platform, especially Pentaho Data Integration (PDI) and Spoon client components. Knowledge of Ellucian Banner student systems, PeopleSoft HR and Financial Systems. Experience in data management in higher education; strong understanding of database and data warehouse structures, BI tools, and system implementation. Experience with reporting applications Argos and BI application Oracle Apex is a plus.
