The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

Overview The University System of Georgia (USG) is seeking a Systems Architect to join the Enterprise Data Management & Analytics (EDMA) team within Information Technology Services (ITS). This position plays a critical role in the design, development, and integration of enterprise data systems that support analytics, reporting, and decision-making across USG’s 26 institutions. The Systems Architect will focus on data collections from Ellucian Banner, integration through Ellucian Ethos, ETL/ELT pipelines, data quality frameworks, and application development in Oracle APEX. Additional responsibilities include leveraging Python for automation, working with cloud platforms (Azure preferred, GCP or AWS), and supporting modern analytics engineering with tools like DBT.

Responsibilities

Design and implement enterprise data integration strategies for Ellucian Banner, Ethos, and Workday.

Develop and maintain ETL/ELT processes to ensure reliable, high-quality data pipelines.

Establish and monitor data quality standards, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.

Assist in the creation of technical specifications to support system design and development.

Design, develop, and deploy Oracle APEX applications integrated with enterprise data systems.

Utilize Python for data processing, automation, and integration tasks.

Assist in architecting solutions in cloud environments (Azure preferred; GCP or AWS acceptable).

Collaborate with stakeholders across USG institutions to define requirements and deliver solutions.

Mentor team members on best practices in data architecture, ETL, and application development.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

At least 5 years of progressively responsible IT experience, including 3+ years in systems or data architecture.

Strong expertise in ETL/ELT development and data quality management.

Advanced SQL skills; Oracle PL/SQL experience strongly preferred.

Hands-on experience with Python for automation and data processing.

Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred, GCP or AWS).

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience with Ellucian Banner data structures and Ethos API integration

Proficiency in Oracle APEX application development.

Experience with Workday data integration.

Experience with DBT (Data Build Tool) for analytics engineering or similar tool.

Familiarity with Oracle Data Integrator (ODI).

Knowledge of higher education data models and reporting practices.

Knowledge

Strong knowledge of higher education enterprise systems, particularly Ellucian Banner and Workday.

Understanding of Ellucian Ethos integration and higher education data models.

Advanced knowledge of SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, and database performance tuning.

Knowledge of ETL/ELT design, data quality management, and governance best practices.

Familiarity with cloud architectures (Azure preferred; GCP or AWS acceptable).

Understanding of modern data transformation frameworks such as DBT or other framework.

Skills

Proficiency in Python for automation, data integration, and workflow orchestration.

Strong skills in Oracle APEX development.

Ability to design and manage complex ETL pipelines.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work across multiple institutions and teams.
