The Junior Accountant supports the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and grant compliance tracking. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, enjoys working with numbers, and has experience supporting accounting functions in a nonprofit environment. This role offers an opportunity to deepen accounting skills while contributing to meaningful work. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Operations: Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and in a timely manner; prepare and record journal entries with proper coding; maintain organized financial records and documentation; assist with monthly and year-end reconciliations; verify and reconcile expenses; facilitate vendor payments; manage accruals; provide ad hoc reports; ensure invoices are accurate and communicated to stakeholders; manage the assigned program’s accounts payable function ensuring expenses are accurate, allocable, and timely. Grant Compliance & Tracking: Track grant expenditures and allocations; prepare financial reports for grants and contracts in coordination with the Finance Director and program staff; ensure expenses are charged to appropriate accounts and funding sources in compliance with grant agreements; prepare and submit grant invoices and follow up on receivables; record grant-related transactions and assist in preparing supporting documentation for audits and funder reports. Budget & Reporting Support: Assist in the preparation of monthly budget-to-actual reports; support data collection and analysis for financial and program reporting; collaborate with program managers to provide financial information and ensure grant compliance; assist with the annual audit and 990 tax return preparation; perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications

Required

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience Minimum 1–2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization Basic understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, including grant or fund accounting Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or similar) and Microsoft Excel Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Commitment to the values and mission of IIBA Preferred

Experience with government or foundation grant compliance tracking Familiarity with restricted and unrestricted fund management Experience working in a collaborative team environment Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $65,000 – $72,000. Final salary is determined based on skills, education, experience, geographic location, and internal equity considerations.
