LOCATION OF (2) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION, BLEDSOE COUNTY CORRECTIONAL COMPLEX, BLEDSOE COUNTY
This position will be screened with a Motor Vehicle Records check. A pre‑employment drug screen is required. A criminal background check is required.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
High‑school graduation and two years of full‑time clerical accounting or auditing work.
Substitution of Experience for Education:
Qualifying full‑time clerical accounting or auditing experience may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
Substitution of Education for Experience:
Accounting coursework from an accredited college or technical institute may substitute for the required experience under the following conditions:
4.5 quarter hours in accounting or bookkeeping = 1 year substitution
9 quarter hours in accounting or bookkeeping = 2 year substitution
12 quarter hours in accounting or bookkeeping = 2½ year substitution
15 quarter hours in accounting or bookkeeping = 3 year substitution
Overview Under general supervision, an employee in this class prepares and maintains sub‑professional accounting records, financial statements, and reports of moderate to considerable complexity. This class differs from Account Clerk (more routine tasks) and Accounting Technician 2 (greater volume and complexity).
Responsibilities
Calculate overall invoice totals, account adjustments, and purchases/account deductions to generate reports, spreadsheets, and adjustment forms. Apply cash and checks received to appropriate accounts, calculate and disburse funds, and code adjustment sheets/requisitions.
Audit travel expenses, requisitions, accounts receivable, and accounts payable vouchers. Audit state credit card purchases and commissary counts.
Allocate expenses internally to appropriate accounting strings to ensure proper funding.
Process paycheck modifications and generate requisitions, purchase orders, receipts, and vouchers as necessary.
Research outstanding checks, overpayments, and underpayments; perform cancellations or re‑issuance as needed.
Manage complaints from internal and external customers effectively by providing clear and accurate information and possible resolutions.
Monitor trust funds for individuals in state custody, internal and external vendor contracts, employee time‑sheet entries, tracking system, and daily reports.
Provide training to co‑workers on accounting‑based database operations, policies, and procedures.
