Pre‑employment requirements: motor‑vehicle records screening, drug screening, and criminal background check.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least two (2) years of full‑time clerical accounting or auditing work.
Accounting coursework may substitute for experience: 4.5 quarter hours = 1 year, 9 quarter hours = 2 years, 12 quarter hours = 2.5 years, 15 quarter hours = 3 years of experience.
Overview An employee in this class works under general supervision to prepare and maintain sub‑professional accounting records, financial statements, and reports of moderate to considerable complexity. The role differs from an accounting clerk in that it involves more complex bookkeeping and from an accounting technician 2 in terms of volume and difficulty.
Responsibilities
Calculate overall invoice totals, account adjustments, and purchases/account deductions to generate reports and adjustment forms; apply cash and checks to appropriate accounts and disburse funds.
Audit travel expenses, requisitions, accounts receivable, accounts payable vouchers, state credit‑card purchases, and commissary counts.
Allocate expenses internally to appropriate accounting streams to ensure proper funding.
Process paycheck modifications and generate requisitions, purchase orders, receipts, and vouchers for assigned work unit.
Research outstanding checks, overpayments, and underpayments and perform cancellations or re‑issuances as needed.
Manage complaints from internal and external customers, providing clear and accurate information and possible resolution options.
Monitor trust funds for individuals in state custody, vendor contracts, employee timesheet entries, tracking system, and daily reports.
Provide training to co‑workers on accounting‑based databases, policies, and procedures.
