Molecular & PCR Lab Manager Molecular Laboratory Manager

The Molecular Laboratory Manager is responsible for managing one or more teams performing Clinical testing/support. The manager is responsible for reporting metrics and milestones and will represent the laboratory at meetings as required. The manager will demonstrate competencies and behaviors including strategic thinking, commitment to customers, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to lead change while delivering results. The manager must demonstrate leadership, act as a role model to the team(s), and promote good communication and teamwork.

Serve as a member on project teams and/or departmental working groups. The work scope supports multiple tasks to achieve corporate/project team objectives for multiple project teams. The manager is responsible for the quality and integrity of data generated in their assigned area and will assist in evaluating new technologies to improve throughput, precision, accuracy and overall quality of methods used by their teams. Ensure that corporate, quality, regulatory, and safety procedures are observed and followed.

Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations Deliverables:

Under direction of management, plans and oversees the day-to-day operations and general activities associated with one or more laboratories/projects.

Ensures laboratory resources (materials/reagents/equipment/facilities) are maintained to meet assigned objectives; evaluates performance/metrics of laboratory/project in relation to objectives and communicates to senior management; works to optimize laboratory performance based on metrics.

Promote and adhere to all quality and safety practices in compliance with regulatory requirements. Support a quality and compliant testing environment (laboratories, equipment, reagents, training and documentation, methods, personnel).

Maintain alignment of processes and procedures. Share best practices within team/platform.

Financial Operations Deliverables:

Tracks/manages expenditures against assigned budgets.

Advises management of significant budget deviations.

Assures that all laboratory financial operations comply with corporate requirements.

Reviews budget by integrating data from different projects, verifying that expenses are charged correctly to projects in compliance with requirements, making corrections as necessary.

Scientific Operations and Management Deliverables:

Perform/support activities to ensure test method life cycle management (documentation, method suitability/trending, maintenance, etc.).

Support completion of analytical deliverables to meet project milestones.

Assist in the evaluation of new technologies/improvements to support analytical expertise as required.

Review and evaluate data and formulate recommendations as needed.

Work with internal and external partners in support of collaborative projects.

Prepare key documents as required.

May serve as Subject matter Expert (SME) as required.

Support departmental quality by ensuring adequate support for documentation, investigation, and closure of quality items including change controls, deviations, and CAPAs.

Personnel Supervision and Management Deliverables:

Oversees operational activities of staff working in the laboratory.

Provides guidance and expert advice to staff on technical issues, safety procedures and regulatory compliance; monitors operations for compliance.

Provides personnel development and performance feedback.

Ensures new employees are appropriately trained/on-boarded and familiar with laboratory requirements; supervises orientation and training of new project staff.

Ensures adequate staffing levels and support for operation of the department.

Selects candidates for employment; provides orientation, in-service and other educational programs.

Provides counsel and guidance to staff and resolves problems and grievances.

Regulatory & Quality Management Deliverables:

Ensures adherence to all applicable quality, corporate, safety, and regulatory requirements.

As assigned, supports departmental objectives and ensures the integrity of deliverables for key milestones and objectives.

Ensures processes and procedures are executed in a quality and compliant manner.

Education and Experience Requirements

5+ years of relevant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.

College or advanced degree in chemical, biomedical, biochemical, or process engineering, chemistry, materials sciences, or formulation sciences, with understanding of analytical chemistry.

Knowledge of typical CMC activities and requirements.

Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and using project management tools. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. PMP certification is a plus.

Knowledge of and experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Strong interpersonal skills, self-awareness and ability to manage team dynamics.

Strong written and oral communication skills with experience managing cross-functional communication. Excellent presentation skills and comfortable presenting to leadership and stakeholders.

Strong collaborative work ethic with results orientation.

Ability to facilitate project team meetings, enhance cross-functional communication, support decision making, influence outcomes, and ensure alignment among internal and external stakeholders.

Knowledge of laboratory terminology, good documentation, and good laboratory practices.

Excellent knowledge of MS Office including MS Project, Visio, SharePoint and MS Teams.

Compensation

Estimated Min Rate: $40.00

Estimated Max Rate: $50.00
