Molecular & PCR Lab Manager Category: Life Science Employment Type: Contract Reference: BH-387096 Primary Duties
The Molecular Laboratory Manager is responsible for managing one or more teams performing clinical testing/support. Responsible for reporting metrics and milestones and will represent the laboratory at meetings as required. The Molecular Manager will demonstrate applicable competencies and behaviors including strategic thinking, commitment to customers cooperating transversally across multiple functions, and the ability to drive change while delivering results. Must also demonstrate leadership, act as a role model to the team(s), and promote good communication and teamwork. Serve as a member on project teams or departmental working groups. Work scope supports multiple tasks to achieve corporate/project objectives for multiple project teams. Responsible for the quality and integrity of data generated in their assigned area. Assists efforts with evaluation of new technologies to improve throughput, precision, accuracy and overall quality of methods used by their teams. Ensures adherence to corporate, quality, regulatory and safety procedures at all times. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Laboratory Operations Deliverables: under direction of management, plans and oversees the day-to-day operations and general activities associated with one or more laboratories/projects. Ensures laboratory resources (materials/reagents/equipment/facilities) are maintained to meet objectives; evaluates performance/metrics and communicates status to senior management; works to optimize laboratory performance based on metrics. Promotes and adheres to all quality and safety practices in compliance with regulatory requirements. Supports a quality and compliant testing environment (laboratories, equipment, reagents, training and documentation, methods, personnel). Maintain alignment of processes and procedures and share best practices within the team/platform. Financial Operations Deliverables: Tracks and manages expenditures against assigned budgets. Advises management of significant budget deviations. Ensures all laboratory financial operations comply with corporate requirements. Reviews budget by integrating data from different projects and verifying expenses are charged correctly; makes corrections as necessary. Scientific Operations and Management Deliverables: Performs/supports activities to ensure test method life cycle management (documentation, method suitability/trending, maintenance, etc.). Supports completion of analytical deliverables to meet project milestones. Assists in evaluating new technologies/improvements to support analytical expertise. Reviews and evaluates data and formulates recommendations as needed. Works with internal and external partners in support of collaborative projects. Prepares key documents as required. May serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) as required. Supports departmental quality by ensuring adequate support for documentation, investigations, and closure of quality items including change controls, deviations, and CAPAs. Personnel Supervision and Management Deliverables: Oversees operational activities of staff working in the laboratory. Provides guidance and expert advice to staff on technical issues, safety procedures and regulatory compliance; monitors operations for compliance. Provides personnel development and performance feedback. Ensures new employees are appropriately trained and onboarded; supervises orientation and training of new project staff. Ensures adequate staffing levels and support for operation of the department. Selects candidates for employment and provides orientation, in-service and other educational programs. Provides counsel and guidance to staff and resolves problems and grievances. Regulatory & Quality Management Deliverables: Ensures adherence to all applicable quality, corporate, safety, and regulatory requirements. Performs additional activities in support of departmental objectives as assigned by management. Ensures integrity of deliverables associated with departmental milestones and objectives; ensures processes are executed in a quality and compliant manner. Education and Experience Requirements
5+ years of relevant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. College or advanced degree in chemical, biomedical, biochemical, or process engineering, chemistry, materials sciences, or formulation sciences, with understanding of analytical chemistry. Knowledge of typical CMC activities and requirements. Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects; excellent organizational skills; PMP certification is a plus. Knowledge of and experience with implementing Agile/Scrum methodologies. Strong interpersonal skills, self-awareness, and ability to manage team dynamics. Strong written and oral communication skills, with experience managing cross-functional communication; excellent presentation skills. Strong collaborative work ethic; results-oriented with focus on business results. Ability to facilitate project team meetings, enhance cross-functional communication, support decision making, influence outcomes, and align stakeholders. Knowledge of laboratory terminology, good documentation, and good laboratory practices. Proficiency with MS Office (including MS Project and Visio), SharePoint and MS Teams. Estimated Min Rate:
