BioLife Solutions, Inc. Overview BioLife Solutions is a leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of cell and gene therapy bioproduction tools and services. The Manager, Indirect Taxes (MIT) is responsible for maintaining a thorough understanding of BioLife Solutions’ business processes to ensure that the tax process functionality and performance meet current and future business requirements. The MIT will be the subject matter expert on local and state related Sales, Use, Property and other indirect taxes and will interact with each business unit to understand their filling processes and issues. The MIT will develop tools to facilitate tax return preparations, create controls for accurate reporting, and develop and implement process and procedure documents to ensure accurate and timely filing. After establishing compliant processes, the role focuses on audit management and tax planning activities. The MIT reports to the Controller. Responsibilities Tax Planning/Guidance: develop and coordinate the tax compliance calendar with business unit staff; share up-to-date tax law changes with business units for immediate action. Tax Reporting Process/Maintenance/Operations: document work instructions, procedures and processes to improve local and state tax reporting; manage tax reporting for all business units including Avatax; improve indirect taxes; configure and support ERP and tax systems. ERP and Tax System Management: serve as primary contact for ERP (NetSuite), Corporate Credit Card Program tax configuration and tax-related processing issues; maintain ERP tax tables (Avalara) for new/changed tax rates; monitor data integrity; respond to tax inquiries. Tax Auditing/Compliance: review and respond to tax letters/notices; manage indirect tax audits with business units and Controller oversight; address exposure or disclosure situations; review customer exemption documentation for compliance; audit monthly/annual returns; audit additional tax areas as needed. Tax Research/Determination: act as subject matter expert on state/local/Canadian tax questions; perform tax research and provide written guidance to operating branches and the Accounting department. Tax Preparation/Filing/Reporting: review/prep state/local tax returns and remittances; maintain monthly tax journal entries and reconciliations. Tax Projects/Other: lead tax projects as directed; coordinate campaigns to substantiate historical uncollected sales taxes; research federal excise opportunities; prepare refund requests for exemption or error. General: stay proficient in NetSuite or similar ERP, Avalara, SharePoint and Excel; develop and improve tax reports to support reporting requirements. Qualifications 8 years of local and state tax experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; tax concentration preferred Strong knowledge of accounting and tax principles; experience with Sales, Use, Property, and other tax requirements Tax software experience is essential (Avalara) Advanced proficiency with MS Excel, database tools and ERP systems Strong background in sales and use tax compliance and reporting Job Requirements Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with strong organizational skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across teams Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Ability to travel as required Job Specifications 8 years’ local and state tax experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, with a tax concentration preferred In-depth knowledge of accounting and tax principles Proven knowledge of Sales, Use, Property, Excise and other tax requirements Avalara tax software experience Advanced MS Excel and ERP system skills Strong background in sales and use tax compliance and reporting BioLife Solutions is an equal opportunity employer. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $110,000 – $160,000 per year, with compensation determined by experience and qualifications.
