Position Summary The Processing Lab Supervisor will supervise and optimize all tasks in the Post Processing Lab and will assist the Lab Manager and Manufacturing team by maintaining quality control measures in the extraction and purification processes and thereby ensuring the delivery of high-quality product. This Supervisor carries out day‑to‑day tasks including prepping for distillation runs, formulations, and ethanol extractions, and maintaining paperwork using good documentation practices. The Laboratory Supervisor will be a hands‑on working supervisor responsible for extraction team training and schedule coordination between early and late overlapping shifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Directly supervise the Post Processing staff and accomplish department results by communicating job expectations; weekly and monthly planning; monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.

Report all output metrics directly to the Lab Manager, including daily production metrics, actual vs. expected production results, variances, staff absences, and all associated production paperwork.

Communicate professionally with management and co‑workers on a professional basis.

Prepare for efficient production by reviewing the manufacturing schedule, studying and clarifying specifications, calculating batch requirements, assembling and weighing plant materials and supplies for extractions, distillations, and formulations.

Ensure proper scheduling of the Post Processing team, accounting for PTO and call‑offs when applicable.

Perform all training required for the Post Processing team, including maintaining all required documentation.

Operate highly sophisticated extraction and processing equipment; process concentrate, extracts, and formulated products.

Clean and maintain lab equipment and laboratory facility following current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) and standard operating procedures; comply with legal regulations.

Operate, maintain, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory equipment such as extractors, heaters, chillers, vacuum pumps, balances, centrifuges, distillation units, and other laboratory equipment.

Operate extraction equipment to extract crude oil utilizing ethanol as a solvent in a C1D2 environment.

Operate highly sophisticated purification equipment to convert crude oil into decarboxylated oil.

Follow procedures for extract purification, including ethanol addition, winterization, filtration, rotary evaporation, decarboxylation, and distillation.

Assist with the development of further purification processes and in‑process materials, including processes for new products.

Maintain inventory records of supplies, materials, equipment PMs as required, and prepare requisitions as needed.

Maintain strict inventory within state‑issued cannabis inventory software, MJ Freeway, via regular cycle counts of WIP inventory.

Store supplies and equipment, dispose of waste according to state guidelines, and keep laboratory, storerooms, and working areas organized.

Perform clerical work related to laboratory activities such as word processing, record keeping, data logging, and filing.

Maintain material safety data sheets for all department chemicals and products.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

BS/BA Degree or greater in Chemistry, Bio‑Chemistry or similar.

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a lab or manufacturing setting.

Minimum of 2 years' experience leading and managing a team.

Experience with scientific writing for processes, training, and procedures that require documentation.

Knowledge of and hands‑on experience with Ethanol Extraction, Winterization & Filtration, Rotary Evaporation, Distillations and Product Formulations.

Ability to draft weekly and monthly schedule for department processes, as well as establish daily metrics for each process on a week by week basis.

Ability to follow health and safety practices and precautions applicable to an extraction laboratory.

Experience with proper and safe handling and disposal of harmful chemicals, substances, and hazardous wastes.

Experience with computer systems, software, and hardware common to laboratories.

Experience with record keeping procedures, as well as regular audits of team’s production sheets to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Preferred Qualifications:

1-year experience in the cannabis industry preferred.

QA/QC experience with HPLC and GC analysis preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, along with frequent bending.

Close vision (unobstructed vision at 20 inches or less).

Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with fingers.

Ability to lift to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds with assistance.
