Maintain a documented, organized system as directed by the Maryland Department of Corrections, safeguarding the integrity of medical records while ensuring information is readily accessible to authorized staff and medical professionals. Direct all medical record activities and personnel pertinent to the assigned area. Assist in policy/procedure/system development, analyzing, compiling, indexing and filing medical records. Submit timely reports to the Statewide Director of Medical Records as requested. Implement established policies/procedures/systems to provide efficient medical record services. Ensure medical record information confidentiality through appropriate release of medical record documentation. Ensure medical record availability. Assign staff members to routinely review health records for signature/name stamp, dates, and time deficiencies and report non-compliance of health care providers to the Medical Director, Director of Nursing and/or the Regional Administrator as appropriate. Train and supervise clinical and medical record personnel in medical record procedures, protocols and guidelines. Ensure continuous quality improvement in health information and medical record management. Maintain medical record equipment; prepare and submit supply/equipment requisitions for approval to the Administrator. Prepare and submit routine and special statistical reports. Participate in the Quality Improvement program by attending meetings and reporting on data assigned for collection or as requested. Develop ongoing CQI monitoring programs. Conduct ongoing chart audits to ensure quality and accuracy of patient records; collect and submit information for monthly statistical reports. Identify and assess areas for improvement and participate in process improvement; represent the Medical Records Department at appropriate meetings. Address all court/legal-related correspondence related to health records in a timely manner per policies and procedures. Ensure medical records are prepared for court proceedings and serve as the medical records custodian when necessary. Quarterly review Department of Correction guidelines and monitors for compliance. Develop and implement corrective action plans for health records contract audit issues. Prepare and participate in inter- and intra-departmental in-service education programs. Ensure medical record completion housed within the facility. Comply with standards, legal requirements, and regulations of regulatory agencies, government authorities, professions, and YesCare. Manage staff activities including attendance, disciplinary action, policy and procedure compliance, performance reviews, and training. Ensure appropriate and quality orientation for all newly hired staff. Attend Statewide Medical Records Meetings, M&M meetings, MAC meetings, and other required conference calls. Develop employee improvement programs, orientation programs, and health records in-services for staff and staff orientation. Train and supervise clerical and medical record personnel in medical record procedures. Perform other tasks required to carry out functions of the Medical Records Department and Health Care Unit. Key Qualifications

Graduate and current credentialed by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Must have passed the AHIMA examination. Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Maintain credential licensure and CPR certificate. Minimum 5 years experience in medical records with at least 1 year of supervisory experience; subject to security clearance requirements. Current CPR Certification. Background check, security clearance, and drug screening required. YesCare Benefits (full-time)
