Overview

Learning Disabilities Specialist (AAC - Academic Accommodations Center) Applicant Pool at College of the Canyons. Applications will be considered for immediate and future eligibility into the Learning Disabilities Specialist Noninstructional Applicant Pool. Adjunct pools are open on a fiscal year basis for continuous recruitment for department assignments. Your application will not be considered until all required documents are received. The teaching assignment may be at the Valencia or Canyon Country campus, or other college teaching locations. Part-time faculty positions are as needed positions and do not accrue rights to tenure. Part-time faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of students in achieving their educational goals. Responsibilities

Service: Assume leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole. Commit to serving the needs of the student, department, college, and community. Collaborate across disciplines and utilize student support resources. Participate in department, division, college committees, and participatory governance activities.

Participation in curriculum and program development.

Work collegially and collaboratively within the college community.

Participation in ongoing professional development.

Teaching: Create a dynamic learning environment that values instructor/student interaction.

Effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.

Adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge of each individual and class. Self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.

Integrate new technologies into the learning process, including interactive technologies for on-campus and online courses.

Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Qualifications and Minimum Requirements Possession of an unexpired California Community College Credential in Learning Disabilities Specialist.

OR Master’s degree in learning disabilities, special education, education, psychology, speech language pathology, communication disorders, educational or school psychology, counseling, or rehabilitation counseling, and fifteen (15) semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of Learning Disabilities.

Desirable Qualifications

Two years of full-time experience or the equivalent in counseling or guidance for students with disabilities, or counseling and/or guidance in related settings serving persons with disabilities.

Completion of the California Community College Learning Disabilities Eligibility & Services Model (LDESM) training or verified graduate coursework or professional training on assessment instruments (WAIS IV, WIAT-4, WRAT-5, etc.).

Experience in conducting learning disability evaluations with adults in community college settings and familiarity with relevant test instruments. Ability to determine reasonable accommodations based on functional limitations.

Proficiency with a variety of computer applications used by Learning Disability specialists. Working knowledge of Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA, and related legislation.

Knowledge of instructional strategies and methodologies for students with learning disabilities.

Ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team and communicate effectively in writing.

Respect for a diverse academic environment and the ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from varied backgrounds, including those with disabilities.

Conditions of Employment Assignments may include Monday through Friday (day and evening), as well as Saturday classes. Adjunct Salary Rate: Starting at $88.30 per hour. Offer is subject to verification of information provided, background fingerprint clearance, tuberculosis screening, work eligibility, and Board of Trustees approval as required.

Notes Positions are open until filled. The above position represents anticipated needs for upcoming semesters or the applicant pool. Candidates who complete the process and meet minimum qualifications or established equivalency may be considered for adjunct employment within the district up to 36 months.
