Senior Formulation Manager – Natural & Functional Personal Care

Location: Hybrid (Burlington, VT area)

This brand is seeking a

Senior Formulation Manager

to lead the development of new formulas in the feminine care and personal care categories, including both cosmetic and OTC applications. You’ll play a key role in driving innovation from concept through lab development, partnering closely with internal stakeholders and external manufacturing partners. Reporting to the VP of R&D, this role is critical in ensuring the brand’s rapid innovation pipeline meets its high standards for efficacy, sustainability, and safety.

What You’ll Do

Own formulation development from early concept through prototype lock across key product lines (creams, wipes, surfactant systems, anhydrous formats, etc.)

Translate product vision and consumer needs into functional, manufacturable formulas rooted in green chemistry principles

Build prototypes in-house during discovery phases, working closely with leadership to rapidly iterate

Serve as the technical liaison with external contract manufacturers to ensure execution aligns with formulation and processing requirements

Manage raw material selection in alignment with regulatory, cost, and performance requirements, particularly for global markets

Partner with Quality, Procurement, and Compliance teams to ensure specifications are met from benchtop through scale-up and commercialization

Support claims development work, including clinical testing where needed

Coach cross-functional partners on formulation topics to foster organizational understanding of personal care development

Stay abreast of emerging raw materials, sustainability trends, and global regulatory shifts to inform product development

Who You Are

Deep understanding of formulation chemistry, especially within plant-based and clean beauty categories

Experience developing both cosmetic and OTC personal care products, ideally with a focus on holistic or wellness-driven brands

Comfortable working hands-on in a lab setting and translating consumer insights into technical solutions

Highly organized, adaptable, and collaborative, with strong communication skills and a proactive mindset

Knowledge of manufacturing processes and scale-up, including BOM/COGS development and MOQ planning

Located within driving distance of Burlington, VT, or willing to commute as needed (relocation support not available)

What You Bring

B.S. in Chemistry or related scientific field (required)

8–10+ years of experience in formulation within the beauty, wellness, or personal care industry

Familiarity with green chemistry principles and clean label ingredient vetting

Strong working knowledge of supply chain operations and formulation commercialization processes

Experience working with diverse product formats and manufacturing systems

Authorized to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship available)
