Overview
Coach Assistant Coach - Various Athletics at Washoe County School District. Summary: Under general supervision of the Principal and/or Athletic Director, coaches or advises students in a specified athletic or Extended Day Duty Activity, maintaining high standards of coaching/advising practices with emphasis on injury prevention and safety. Performs related work as required. Responsibilities
Develops rapport with students and provides sound leadership; serves as an example of good sportsmanship; applies discipline fairly and according to prescribed procedures; is responsible for the general health and welfare of students and for student conduct. Maintains cooperation with the Principal and/or Athletic Director and other Extended Day Duty personnel; maintains good communications by keeping them informed regarding the overall program, including trips and games. Develops a sound system for accountability, upkeep and protection of equipment. Develops good public relations in the school and community. Attends contests and practice sessions. Completes appropriate reports evaluating the activity and makes recommendations for improvements. Employment Standards
Required: Any combination equivalent to education and experience that could provide required knowledge and skills; preferred that applicants be teachers presently under contract with Washoe County School District; some experience participating in and/or functioning as a coach/advisor in this activity. Knowledge of rules, theory and regulations relating to the specific activity, including rule changes and new developments. Skill in providing leadership, developing rapport with students, organizing practices and contests, verbal and written communication, supervising students, and teaching good sportsmanship. Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid Nevada Teaching Certificate is desirable; a CPR certificate is required for coaches/advisors involved in an athletic activity. Special Considerations: Willingness and ability to work on weekends and at various times of the day, depending on the activity. Compensation: Coaching positions are not contracted; compensation is based on a stipend according to the Extended Day Duty Scale negotiated with the Washoe County Teachers Association.
