Job Summary:
The Finance & Accounting Professional provides critical financial support to the Department of Medicine finance team. The role reports to the Finance Program Manager and is responsible for preparing departmental budgets, monitoring actual expenses and variances, recurring financial reporting, reconciling financial transactions, and reviewing/divisional transactions. This position serves as a resource for all divisions within the Department of Medicine.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and reconcile divisional financial transactions; report financials to the division administrator and division head.
Ensure divisional financial commitments are funded and not overspent.
Serve as a financial resource to faculty, providing support as needed.
Take corrective action on deficits or accounting errors per University and Departmental policies.
Prepare monthly divisional fund financial statements and submit contracts as needed.
Monitor and update monthly funding distributions for faculty and staff within the division.
Produce ad hoc financial reports (e.g., CU Medicine operating, enrichment, contract roll-up).
Review monthly financial reports and prepare journal entries, budget journal entries, cash transfers, and payroll expense transfers.
Calculate, validate, and submit compensation items (incentives, on-call pay, differential pay, additional procedure pay).
Conduct reconciliations; submit Defacto and AXIOM budgets and reports for assigned programs.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Senior Level:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or related field. A combination of education and related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Two (2) years of professional level experience in finance/accounting with analyzing and reconciling complex accounting information and financial statements.
Principal Level:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or related field. A combination of education and related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Three (3) years of professional level experience in finance/accounting with analyzing and reconciling complex accounting information and financial statements.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an academic medical center or healthcare environment.
Experience with University of Colorado and CU Medicine business applications (e.g., Peoplesoft Finance, CU-Data, HCM, InfoEd, Concur, AX system, etc.).
Four to six years of professional experience in financial or data analysis, administration, and/or management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong accounting and analytical skills; ability to assemble and analyze information for reports and projects.
Effective written and oral communication; strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments under tight deadlines; high standards of integrity and accountability.
Proficiency in Excel and Access; ability to establish relationships across the institution.
Outstanding customer service skills.
