$18.59/hr - $25.01/hr Location: Shasta Lake School, Gateway Unified School District Overview

Under the direction of the Classroom Teacher, Principal or Designee, the Paraprofessional II SDC provides classroom assistance and supports instructional activities in assigned areas as part of the school team. Responsibilities

Assist instructional personnel in assigned instructional areas. Tutor individual students and small groups with special learning needs to reinforce and follow up learning activities. Assist in shaping appropriate social behaviors and manage acting-out behavior with positive reinforcement and other appropriate techniques. Operate and assist students with instructional aids, computer-assisted instruction equipment, and software programs. Monitor and assist in remediation of specific learning problems and conditions. May administer medication in accordance with specific medical instruction; perform routine first aid and request assistance for non-routine injuries or illnesses. Observe and monitor children with handicapping conditions and request appropriate assistance as needed. Maintain an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment; participate in parent conferences and student progress reporting as assigned. Provide skill-building activities for children who experience language and hearing disorders; interact with students to encourage performance and meet instructional/behavioral needs; share observations with the teacher. Maintain confidentiality; assist with campus supervision and discipline as assigned; assist teacher with materials, record-keeping, supplies, and media equipment. Perform screen-testing when requested; follow school rules and attend job-related in-services, conferences, and staff meetings as assigned. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

Required Qualification

Must meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Knowledge

Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; Special needs and behavior of assigned students; Basic concepts of child growth and development and developmental behavior characteristics, particularly pertaining to pupils with special learning needs; Behavior management strategies and techniques for pupils with typical control problems. Ability

Work well with adults and children; understand and follow written and oral instructions; work with minimal supervision; Perform routine clerical tasks or operate educational and office equipment; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with children and adults. Education and Experience

Any combination of experience and training likely to provide the required knowledge and skills. Typical qualifying factors include: Previous experience working with children in an organized setting, preferably as a Paraprofessional (Instructional Aide); Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, preferably with training or coursework in child growth and development, special education, instructional technology, or related fields. Physical Demands

The position requires standing, walking, using hands, reaching, talking, hearing, and the ability to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities include close color and the ability to adjust focus. Shift: Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 2:45pm Hours: 5.75 hrs/day; 182 workdays; 14 district paid holidays Salary: $18.59 - $25.01 per hour (Range C, includes vacation factor) Application: Applications must be submitted through the Edjoin website.
