Overview
Maintenance Worker - (Field Operations) at HeartShare. Under direct supervision, the maintenance worker maintains and repairs HSVS owned and leased facilities, located throughout the five boroughs, including interiors, exteriors, and grounds. Ensures safe and hazard-free conditions and facility compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Must have solid maintenance/repair skills as detailed below. Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions
In addition to responsibilities below, performs all other duties as assigned. Uses positive approaches when handling difficult situations. Avoids gossip and negative discussions. Remains flexible and adapts to change. Serves as role model for program participants, abides by dress code and conducts self in a professional manner at all times. Remains sensitive and responsive to cultural differences of program participants and staff. Participates in in-service trainings and on-site workshops as required for professional growth and development. Attends external trainings and workshops at direction of management. Represents the organization both within and outside of the work environment in a manner that promotes the mission, vision and values of the agency. Adheres to organizational mission, vision and values, in addition to all other agency policies and procedures. Maintains and repairs buildings interiors, exteriors, and grounds, as instructed, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. Ensures hazard prevention and compliance with applicable regulations and codes. Conducts facilities check of both the interior and exterior. Reports needs and concerns to management, including submitting or recommending work orders. Works off of an automated work order system, from which tasks are assigned by supervisor. Performs maintenance duties, repairs and improvements, as assigned by work order. This includes carpentry, painting, unclogging drains, stopping minor leaks, light electrical (installing ballasts, light fixtures), install/repair doors and locks, etc. Completes task including clean-up of the work area (sweeping/vacuuming, mopping) and disposing of trash properly. Provides vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions. Reports issues with vendors to supervisor. Moves/removes, assembles/disassembles furniture and other items as indicated in the work order. Performs seasonal exterior work including snow removal/salting and lawn maintenance (mowing, hedges, gutters). Maintains proper care in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment. Maintains an inventory of tools, equipment and supplies. Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Adheres to agency vehicle maintenance policies and procedures. Ensures vehicles are clean and contents organized. Qualifications
You Are a Good Fit If You Have High school diploma or GED required. NYS Driver license required. Familiarity with proper operation of electrical equipment (drills, etc.) and manual hand tools (hammer, screwdrivers, etc.) sufficient to carry out job tasks listed. Must be thoroughly skilled in: drywall/sheetrock work; carpentry repairs and improvements (doors/frames); painting and plastering; unclogging drains, stopping minor leaks; replacing bathroom/kitchen fixtures/hardware; install/repair doors and door hardware; electrical (installing ballast, light fixtures); move/remove/assemble furniture. Must be familiar with exterior property maintenance and use of related equipment (snow removal, lawn maintenance such as mowing, hedges, cleaning gutters). Sufficient academic and computer/smartphone skills to use an automated work order system (including written progress notes, uploading photos, marking work orders complete). Sufficient computer and smartphone skills to use PayCom for Payroll, Time and Leave, Performance Management, Evaluations, Training/Learning, etc. Sufficient academic and communication skills to undertake training and certification for various certificates of fitness (e.g., OSHA 10, FDNY S-95, F-0). Able to climb ladders/stairs of varying heights. Able to lift/carry items such as sheetrock, doors, plywood, and other supplies. Ability to identify issues/concerns and notify management. Able to work effectively around people of varying backgrounds, including children and the community at large. Ability to understand and follow safety procedures. Benefits
