Insurance Services is the largest division within the agency and administers one of the premier workers’ compensation organizations in the nation serving over 3.8 million employees working for 260,000 employers. The Third-Party Unit is part of the Legal Services Division. Title 51 Chapter 24 allows for the recovery of civil damages; mandates the reimbursement of benefits; prevents double recoveries and ensures the responsible party pays for the accident. The WCA4 Third Party Adjudicator reviews and analyzes injured worker tort claim mediation and settlement requests, obtains supporting information, and engages in the adjudication process, settlement negotiations where indicated and appropriate with external parties. This position has extensive interaction with internal and external stakeholders including injured workers, employers, attorneys and lay representatives, insurance adjusters, tort claim mediators and the office of the Attorney General. Duties

Maintain caseload of Third Party claims. Review, analyze and use independent judgement to take appropriate action on assigned tort mediation claims and settlement requests. Frequently communicate with injured workers/employers and/or employer representatives, and their lay or legal representatives. Compose and send correspondence. Draft legal orders. Consult with and mentor team members and other areas of the agency. And much more! Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in law, business, public administration or closely aligned field 3 years’ experience adjudicating workers’ or crime victims’ compensation insurance claims, or adjudication of time loss payments, insurance claims/adjusting, or paralegal/law experience Additional relevant experience will substitute year for year for required education (Total 7 years of experience) Knowledge of Washington Worker’s Compensation law and personal injury law Demonstrated effectiveness interacting with a wide range of internal staff and external customers and stakeholders Desired

Experienced and highly skilled at mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution of complex issues Paralegal Certification (such as CP, ACP, etc.) or experience as a legal assistant Knowledge of Tort law, outside insurance industry and/or third-party claims administration Demonstrated ability to engage in sophisticated analysis of complex issues Ability to bring people together to find solutions to complex problems Interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups Effectively communicate verbally and in writing Demonstrated ability to proofread and finalize correspondence Supplemental Information
