The Nueva School The Nueva School has an opening for a full-time Controller to fill a vacancy on their San Mateo-based finance team. Most important qualifications are relevant experience, a positive attitude, and immediate availability. Recent school experience is a plus. A working knowledge of nonprofit accounting is essential and experience with Senior Systems software is preferred. The Controller will report to the Director of Finance and Administration. Coordinate and complete the monthly close in a timely manner that assures accuracy and compliance. Manage team of 3 accounting staff; oversee the daily accounting operations of the school. Generate accurate and appropriately detailed reports for school Leadership, Finance Committee, and Board, including GAAP statements of financial position, statements of cash flow, and income statements versus budget. Lead the annual financial audit process, ensure clean audit opinions. Assure the accurate and timely preparation of IRS Form 990, the submission of required tax and other filings, the payment of property taxes, and the successful completion of annual tax and 403(b) audits. Documentation, implementation, and compliance with best practice accounting policies, practices, and internal controls. Preparing all periodic surveys and reports for the school’s trade organizations (e.g., NAIS, CAIS and ISBOA). Manage all endowment accounting and net asset roll forward on a quarterly basis. Maintain relationships with financial institutions, insurance brokers, auditors, attorneys, and other service providers. Optimize and manage operating cash flows for maximum return while maintaining sufficient available cash balances. Accounting and financial support for all current and prospective school programs and initiatives. Qualifications
10-15 years of Accounting and Finance experience, with at least 3 years as an Accounting Manager or Controller in a nonprofit organization. Experience at educational institutions is beneficial. Demonstrated understanding of fund accounting, temporary and permanent restricted. High level communication skills, both written and spoken. Strong analytical skills and good judgment. Appropriate attention to detail. Accounting systems expertise, FENXT preferred. Demonstrated capacity to handle numerous tasks at once. Ability to professionally handle confidential or sensitive information. CPA is a plus; a thorough knowledge of non-profit accounting is a necessity. Managerial experience Compensation And Benefits
The full-time equivalent salary range for this position is $150,000 - $170,000. The starting salary is based upon, but not limited to, several factors that include type and years of experience, education level, and expertise.
